I started work last Sunday. It's my first job. It's a smoke shop but there's also magazines, candy, and even lottery tickets. I'm not a smoker so I was clueless the first day, but on the third one I had learnt many brands and where each one is placed, so I can hand it to the customers. I've been having fun and learning a lot. The thing is, my boss is known as a bad person with his workers. It's a small town and everyone thinks the same. Many people have quit. I thought I could handle it but I'm already pissed off. I'm new to lottery stuff and haven't been teached, so I've had some mistakes when attending costumers regarding it. He complained. He says I should search information on the internet of every product there is, including how the lottery works, in my free time. He's supposed to…
Category: Antiwork
It's almost like they think they're above the Law… Already contacted an attorney, waiting to hear back after review of my case, plus the labor commissioner in my state for good measure.
A bit of a rant, I'm willing to answer questions if I missed something. I work for Safeway in the department no one wants to work in: the deli. Literally, when people from other departments are called in to help, they immediately are like “fuck my life” as if I'm not right in front of them and can hear them. I've been here just shy of 3 months and have quickly become one of the best employees, primarily because I haven't called out right before my shift, showed up 30+ minutes late, or taken longer breaks than I should. My manager has said that me and her are the “dream team” and that I'm one of the few people she can rely on. That being said, I've also become a sounding board for her (and the assistant manager's) complaints, to the point where I even wrote an email to the…
Threatening Bonus
(Texts are from coworkers phone to DM) Me (7f) And my coworker(17f) from 4 to close we are alone. We are beyond busy and can’t even keep up with the customers. We are behind on the closing list. We are not allowed to leave unless all dishes/ cleaning stuff is done. But if we do that we “blow labor” and apparently that will get everyone written up and we don’t get our bonus. Everyone’s bonus. Point is are they allowed to threaten that?
I can see the similarities…
Area leader keeps the store understaffed
I have severe insomnia that occasionally leads to me going without sleep for a day or two. And when I say without sleep I mean not even 20 minutes. No sleep at all. I'm the only closing manager and today happened to be one of those days. The GMIT of the store is out of town, there's no other managers that can be called in because the area leader refused to hire any. Our GM quit 3+ months ago, the replacement quit after 2 weeks without ever showing up to the store. We've been hemorrhaging staff because there's not enough to keep pressure off anyone. The GMIT isn't allowed to hire anyone. I told the area leader I was not coming in today and later explained why he still told me I had to come in. I cannot work an 8+ hour shift and run it on no sleep. I…

My boss won’t let me sit
For context, I work at a city centre bank. I’ve worked there for two years. We are relatively busy on and off, but not all the time and it’s completely random. We are, and always have been severely understaffed. There is only ever 4 people plus managers in the branch when there needs to be around 10 for it to be effective. We have a front desk to greet customers and check them into the area they need to be in order for us to help them. There has been a small purple chair there for the entirety of the time I have been there HOWEVER … I recently handed in my notice in this role as I was offered another role elsewhere in the bank. When I did this as my new role isn’t connected to my current – they ceased allowing me to do anything related to my…
am i protected?
i don't have evidence but if i did, my mother had a baby which i took care of and would often need to leave work on time to take care of him. after lots of stress from them constantly giving me clopings and making me do 3x the work of other people. i left with mutual support. after settling down and having a more clear mind, i wanted to return. we set an appointment and when i got there, they asked “how i was and how the baby was”. i said it was good and kind of went on a tiny tangent about how good it was with him (not knowing what to say) and after some silence, he told me that they wouldn't take me back but never brought up the baby. i wish i had said nothing about the baby and told more about why i left and…
