My company/site has had a rounds of layoffs, handed out shit raises saying it was a bad year (some people got cents raises), and been monitoring spending like a hawk. I think most of the layoffs were from hiring so much durning Covid but even so a lot of departments are down to 1 person and people are leaving left and right. Yet still no sign of layoffs stopping or the money situation getting resolved. And yet they just announced they just bought another company… just doesn’t make sense to me how they can layoff people and say budget is tight, but buy a whole company.
Category: Antiwork
Taxed on ****ING everything. Including wages. The more you work and earn the more the government and the single mums and druggies get. paying for the NHS which I've barely used. Full time 8.5 hour days doing the same **** day in day out. Now no matter how interesting and appealing they try and make a job sound they're paying you because it's usually neither. Everything gets boring if you do it enough so why must work be any different? if I play a computer game for 40 hours a week I'll eventually get bored of it. Not only that but the hours of work advertised are always complete s***. What ever happened to 9-5. Now it's 6-2, 2-10 or 9-5:30 because they're tight af with the breaks. Oh nooooo I have the audacity to have to have a half hour break between doing some mundane s*** for 8 hours…
Fired with zero notice
I just got fired after being hired 2 months ago because apparently it seemed like I wasn’t enjoying the job which I absolutely was and apparently I have an attitude problem. I was on my 90 day probation period but I had gotten a review two weeks ago which was glowing. Nothing negative, nothing to indicate that there was any problems. Last week Thursday was told an hour before the end of work that a toilet wasn’t flushing I worked as a public works employee hired as building maintenance but was moved to streets till I got the hang of things and after my review was told that I was to work as building maintenance and helping the streets dept. which is wildly understaffed so I get to the admin office and inquired which toilet wasn’t flushing and fixed and I was then told that everyone knew that it wasn’t…
Together we can be safe and sound.. Every time I listen to song it's when I'm feeling so down and hopeless… but together we can make it through.. together we can be safe and sound.. Theres more to life than being exploited. Theres more to life than making it day to day. We deserve happiness. We deserve health. We deserve security.
I’m in CA. I walked out on the 25th, and the 26th my manager texted asking what happened. I told her I am quitting and that she can send the check to my address, she never replied. I’m wondering if I needed to do something differently, because the check still hasn’t come in the mail… the payday has passed as well and I didn’t receive anything via direct deposit. I still have access to the app they use for tracking hours and wages.
Mass Walkout Proposal
I don’t know about you guys, but I am sick and tired of living below the poverty line. I am tired of functioning in an economy that thrives while the bulk of the people in the economy lives below the livable wage mark. A large percentage of the population currently lives without any healthcare, wage equality, workers' rights, or any form of job security. I think it’s time for us to act. In the past, we have seen unions put together strikes to force businesses individually to negotiate tables. These unions often include skilled labor, some trade, or some other signifier that binds that group together. What if the simple fact that you live below the livable wage mark in your area was enough? What if we could unite in solidarity around the fact that we are treated like financial slaves? What I am proposing is a one-day mass walkout.…
So I have been at this company for almost 2 months now. I work with autistic children and I am entry level. I have worked with kids for many years as a camp counselor but not with this population. When I started the job they told me I need a certain certification for the role and they would provide me with the free 40-hour course work. When I first started it was hard but it was mostly just adjusting to the role and the kids. I guess in the beginning of starting there they have to do competence exams on you. So after my first week of training, I start working with the kids which was stressful. The third week they start the competence exams on me. They basically are testing on how well I pair with the kids and how well I’m doing with the work(we basically teach them…
For reference this is in Texas. This next paragraph is all going to be background about my work situation. I work as a bartender, but the bar is inside of a corporate office. Only people who work in that corporate office are allowed at the bar. It is still a full bar though. When I applied for the job, the pay was set at $21/hour. This is the ONLY reason I took the job as it is a 40 minute commute but the pay would cover my gas. We do also get tips, but I was told the pay was set so high because people didn't tip often. I have been getting a sizeable amount in tips but I don't know if this is the norm or not as I've only been there about three months. The bar is also a full kitchen and we have a coffee bar too.…
Being paid less
What do you do when your gut tells you you’re being paid less than everyone else?
