So here is another discussion regarding health insurance. My sister in New York while a student was on Medicaid which means she is low income and does not need to pay a premium on Health insurance plans. She has a few minor medical issues but her thyroid needs to be monitored. So last year she got a job earning a total of $38K gross, Medicaid sent her a letter letting her know she is no longer covered and would have to get an insurance plan in the free market. She calls around for insurance and the lowest she can find is for almost $600 per month. That's a big chunk of her meager paycheck, her options are forego insurance, quit her job, find another job to cover insurance. She will not be able to survive with 38K a month much less paying for health insurance. Does anyone has any input…
Category: Antiwork
My current situation shows the progress promoted by the media about equality with marginalized groups like Trans folk such as myself, is nothing more than a delusion. Especially down south out in the sub towns. Somewhat long post below: My boss pushes a lot of politics at work but strangely never started off making things unbearable at work. However a couple days ago when a friend who works at another store gave me some flyers to pass out for pride month (just flyers asking to support a list of charities if they can) he got pretty mad. He started leaking his personal politics into work but a couple of his sub managers had prevented hm from doing anything crazy because the flyers were harmless and he didn't want to look like the bigot that he is. Plus, it was only a dozen flyers. Those were given out and nothing else…
For context, I’ve been working this job for well over a year. I initially picked this job because it got me out of a job that mainly was tips and on my feet all day to an office job with way more money that basically allowed me to work and pay for college at the same time. Recently I decided that college wasn’t working out and to prioritize my mental health I asked to go into remote work as I would be moving away closer to family and wouldn’t be able to come into the office ( I work a desk job on the phones and remote work would not be too hard.) They asked me to go above and beyond my quota for 6 weeks to even be considered for remote work, not even one week of being lower than the last. I already go above quota and having…

Closing shift staff were forced to clock out and wait inside locked doors to be freed, unpaid.

My male coworker and I both asked for raises in 2022 and were told we’d be notified in April. In April, performance reviews were suspended indefinitely. I just found out my coworker still got his raise and was told not to tell so they could get away with not giving me mine.— Kimberly Nguyen-Poet Laureate of Pay Transparency (@knguyenpoetry) June 27, 2023
My wife will be giving birth any day now. She is taking off 3 months at her job, unpaid so she can heal and take care of our newborn. I was more than willing to get a second job to make up for the loss in income, and I did. I also got a third. And it’s not going to be enough. I make a decent salary at my main job, and I’m trying to supplement our income with Lyft in the evenings and on weekends, and 6 days a week I work 3 hours at night cleaning the exterior common areas of an apartment complex. Not only will I not be able to replace all of my wife’s income, I’ll be using every spare second and ounce of energy I have- just to break even. To add insult to injury, I found out today that my boss at my…
Simply doing your job isn’t enough
I hate the fact that doing the job that you applied for isn’t enough to keep your job. At my job we’re basically forced to do “extracurriculars” to help out the company. AKA things that were never part of the job description or even remotely close to what I’m paid to do. If we don’t do things like helping out with recruiting, interviewing, help plan/set up special events, etc., it’s used against us when it comes to performance evaluations. What is this, high school with extracurriculars??
Started a new job today, and my manager made it very clear that they want us to come into the lunch/break room first thing, find out where in the factory they want us to work that day, THEN go clock in (and no more than 2 minutes early). I know it's just a few minutes, but it doesn't seem right to have a conversation about work before clocking in, and frankly, I'm tired of employers getting away with shit, even small things. So would this be illegal? I live in the US, Ohio, so I called OSHA to ask, but they told me to call my state's Dept. of Labor Wage & Hour division. Dept. of Labor didn't answer, so I thought I'd ask here so I can be a little prepared tomorrow morning. I'm fully ready to dig my heels in if the law is on my side.
