I hate when jobs say they want a “professional appearance. First off, what does that even mean? I had an interviewer tell me if I was hired I'd need to change my hair color. It's red. It's not even a crazy shade of red, it's just obvious that it's not my natural hair color so of course it's “unprofessional” even though red is a natural color. The thought that I have to change the color of my hair in order to earn a living rubs me the wrong way. It's not like I showed up to the interview with neon orange or lime green hair. Also the fact that I have to flat iron the crap out of my hair for an hour before any interview or I look like a crazy lady since my hair is naturally very curly and frizzy. And I know that's not considered “professional”. So…

I shouldn’t get as heated up as I am but damn, we’re all living in a housing crisis and making just above minimum wage. Multiple people at my job have lived in their cars and had to quit because no apartments were available to rent. Feed your damn employees, no, not the rotten fruit that doesn’t sell after sitting on the shelves for god knows how long. Let them have free lunches when we work at a grocery store that makes bank and is sitting comfortably in the higher ups pockets.

This is a bit of a long one so I apologize. I need advice for dealing with micromanaging assholes. I started a new job a couple months ago. I was kinda thrown into it at first and didn’t receive a lot of formal training, so I was making a lot of mistakes. My manager was patient at first and checked a lot of the work I was doing (the industry I work in is sales-y, working with clients, etc) and would correct mistakes as they came. Now that I’m more comfortable with our customers and the systems we use, they’ve let me off the hook and allowed me to work without them checking everything I did. I was very confident at first. Any mistakes I made I would take the constructive criticism well and make sure they didn’t happen again. However, that criticism has now become constant, and not so…

I work at a coffee shop I get 4 shifts a week at work but when training starts she cuts my hours down to 3 what can I do about this? Partial unemployment? Labor board?

I was scheduled to work 3-7 today. About an hour into my shift my supervisor asks if I can stay until 8 because they didn’t schedule enough people for closing. I was already exhausted but I am a people pleaser and said yes very hesitantly. I get a text from my mom saying she’s in town and is coming over and is gonna leave around 8. I don’t get to see my mom a lot and didn’t want to miss her. 30 minutes after I was asked to say I go to my boss and apologize saying I can’t because of exhaustion as well as the thing with my mom. She wasn’t mad but I could tell she was disappointed and I feel bad but also it’s not my problem and they shouldn’t rely on one person to fill the gaps in the schedule, someone else should’ve already been scheduled.…
