Another one bites the dust. West Coast startup/small business culture is such an exhausting hellscape. I moved here a year and a half ago and it's been a steady, consistent stream of employers ghosting, rescinding offers at the very last minute, and just otherwise being totally unprofessional+incompetent and wasting my time. I turned down MULTIPLE other interviews and job offers because this guy spent an hour bragging about his company's work culture, and now I'm sh*t out of luck and out of a job with about 24 hours notice. Lesson learned, never prioritize a single offer.

People not Retiring in their 80s.
This article is attempting to justify not retiring even if you're 80. Why would I want to still be working at 80? https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-reasons-more-people-are-working-in-their-80s-34f11699?st
So I work in a sub shop, I’ve been to jail and he’s been to prison so we are a same mindset on how to treat each other in a sort of way because of that. I generally cuss when I talk, and he does too and suddenly he got in my face and told me I’m not gonna talk to him like that and cuss when talking to him. nybody know what to do here? He’s on camera getting in my face suddenly while I’m doing dishes. I want to report this to the owner, but I’m sure he is likely to side with the GM to SOME extent. I don’t want to leave this job, but that was HIGHLY inappropriate. I walked away and came badk to try to sort it and he just told me to “get out my store” (It was the end of my shift…
work screw up
i screwed up big time. i ordered 100+ volunteer appreciation gifts and they are all wrong. instead of the original size i was supposed to order, i ordered things way smaller. very noticeable. my boss said it is what it is and we’ll make it work since we don’t have the budget to reorder them, but i know they’re mad. and i’m so upset and embarrassed. i can’t believe i made this mistake. they can’t be returned/reordered because they’re branded, and we wouldn’t have the budget to order the bigger sized items anyway. i just don’t know what to do. i feel like an idiot. it was such a small detail i missed when placing the order and i don’t know how to fix it. i don’t think i can.

Just needed a place to complain
Just got the news today that instead of our four days a week/ten hour shifts, we’re being switched to five days a week/eight hour shifts. Management says that the summer weather will be too hot if we stay on our four days a week schedule and they don’t want our production to suffer from us taking too many breaks. Am I crazy for thinking that this doesn’t make any sense? “It’s too hot four days of the week, so let’s have you guys start working five days a week”? This schedule change begins next week. We don’t get paid holidays, but have always had the option to make up missed holidays hours on Fridays (one of our days off). When asked if we could make up next week’s holiday (Fourth of July) hours to avoid missing out on our normal 40 hours a week, management told us “no” and that…
I usually keep a water bottle nearby because the blood pressure medicine I take causes a light cough that irritates my throat. I also tend to sweat a lot, so I try to drink a lot of water to keep myself hydrated. However, we’re not supposed to keep water bottles in prep areas and I work in a grocery store deli. I’ve asked if I can keep it beneath the counter so that it’s out of sight but the answer was still no. There’s a water fountain that employees can use but it’s upstairs in the rear of the store, and sometimes we’re too busy or I’m by myself and can’t just leave the deli to go get a sip of water. What’s worse is that I live in southern Louisiana, where the heat index has been around 100-105 degrees daily. What can I do?
I'm almost 40 and this is the first time I've ever been fired. We were given notice of the mandatory overtime the night before it began (we're normally off weekends and this info was given on a Friday night). The real kicker…the mandatory overtime is due to BEING SHORT STAFFED. All those who refused (about 1/4 of us) were immediately terminated. This is 100% legal in my state. I double checked and they can work us literally as much mandatory overtime for as many weeks as they want. I'm not eligible for unemployment. Background: not only do I not have childcare arrangements for my off days, I have an autoimmune condition and my typical workload is pushing my body's limits (but it's not the kind of situation to be protected by ADA, unfortunately). This could have ended with me in the hospital. I put my life first and now I…
