What is with the disconnect between corporate and actual locations?

I've been struggling to get a job for about a month and a half now. So far, out of dozens of applications, I've had two interviews. Let's talk about how they went! The first: Metro by T-Mobile. I had applied to this job on Indeed, and received a message saying they'd like to interview me at 1:00 PM. Sounds great, right? Well, apparently, whoever is in charge of that Indeed profile told every single applicant to come in at the same day and same time, and nobody was informed about that. Not the owner, not the manager, not the employees, nobody had a clue. How does that happen?! The manager was so overwhelmed that the owner, who apparently never does interviews, had to help interview people. The second: Wendy's. This one is hot off the press. I applied online, and received a notification from a bot shortly after that I…

How is work at disneyland?

I've gone to dineyland Paris a few years ago and to say that it was magical would be an understatement, I was particularly dazzled by the employees there and how they were all full of energy and in character all the time Fast forward to now and me knowing just how exhausting work can actually be especially if you have to pretend to be happy and energetic 24/7 So I am wondering, anyone out there working a similar job? How is it treating you? Are you okay?

Told my Lead that I was going to lunch at my scheduled time and I got the silent treatment…

I work at a luxury sales store that rhymes with Corey Lurch. It is a Tuesday in the middle of the day and it’s been a little steady but not too busy at all. I finally had a break in customers and it was 2:00, which is when my lunch break is scheduled. I waited a few minutes for our sales lead to read off our info at the top of the hour. That’s typically my cue to go on break. I waited and 5 minutes had passed. I look over at them and they are just walking around with their hands behind their back being lazy as they usually are. So I just walked up to them and said “Hey, just letting you know I am headed off to lunch.” And they slowly looked at their watch like I was lying about the time and like I had just…

What Happened to ‘Essential’ Workers?

I work in distribution so when COVID slapped the 'lean' supply chains in their face with its big fat pandemic-dick, I was there to partake in the ensuing shit show. And there is one mystery I have not been able to solve… Companies went HARD with the 'Thank you for your service' propaganda to their front line workers. Musicians made music about the 'heroes' on the front lines, companies made commercials about it them, and your work place was probably littered with posters about it. We worked beyond ridiculous hours in often ridiculous conditions. Some of us got some company wide bonuses and some were lucky enough like me to be an exempt employee and didn't receive one cent of overtime through the entire thing. We watched as our friends, the ones that were able to work from home, wrote essays about how bored they were. All this to keep…

Boss is going on vacation for a week and I’m getting all of his work

So, my boss is going on vacation for a week pretty soon so I'll be taking over his responsibilities as well as all of my own normal responsibilities during this time. I've been looking over my schedule today and, unsurprisingly, it's going to be an absolute fuck ton of work and I'm not sure that it'll be possible for me to complete it all without working until very late every night. It feels like I'm in between a rock and a hard place because if I am unable to get everything done throughout the week then I'll get disciplined for “not working hard enough”, but if I work my ass off and get all of the work done they'll think, “oh look, Ready is more than capable of taking on the work of two people!” And tbh I don't think I can sanely take on much more work right now…

New job is close by but training is really far away

I just got a job that’s roughly 15 minutes from my house. So I don’t understand why I have to attend training at a location that’s literally 100 miles away. Surely they could train me where I’m supposed to be working???

Walked out of my shitty retail job

I was a head cashier. After a month of pulling twice my weight because of a fresher hire who wouldn't pull their weight (ie not doing our shared assigned tasks, taking two hour lunches) because they were a manager's favorite (they got multiple credit cards a week, which is important to the corporate gods). I was absolutely stressed to the limit, and the managers wouldn't do anything about it. Things came to a head last night, and god-gift head cashier, acting MOD, asked me if I was doing my job because they hadn't heard me asking for credit cards. I just laughed at them and put my stuff on the counter, and told them to have a good night. They yelled after me that I was doing them a favor, and to not come back. Like we're high schoolers and not adults. I didn't plan on it, but I thought…
