A hundred plus all the way from kingsville to Amarillo and y'all's POS governor signs a bill into law stating employers don't have to provide water breaks? Where's y'all french style revolution and rioting? I understand y'all got families to provide for but there should be enough there to do the same amount of damage the French have done so far. Or at least go on strike. I really feel for you guys and I know something has to change but this is outrageous

Are the arguments against it even holding weight? They are beginning to sound like the horror filled fears of people who experienced Y2K with full belief it would happen.
Strange interview
I was reached out to by a recruiter regarding a job that would have been a lateral with more pay and likely better benefits. I overall enjoy my current job but this one would have been mostly work from home and a lot closer to my house. It seemed to be a fun new challenge as well. I did my due diligence to make sure it was a legit company. The first interview was with the recruiter and was already a lot more casual than I'm used to. But it went well enough that she wanted me to meet with the two founders (it's a small-ish start up). That's when things got strange. The first founder was 5-10 minutes late and then never turned his camera on. He started having casual conversation and he very vaguely asked about my experience. It felt very awkward and almost felt like it was…
I joined this start up business with the hopes that it would become something beautiful. That lasted very little. My passion project has gone from something I'm proud of to a hellish nightmare. At the end of the day, I'm a writer at heart. So I'll do what I do best: write. Around the middle of May I left my corporate job to go help a local small business get their feet on the ground. It was a local game shop, and as an avid card player and nerd I felt like it was a match made in heaven. The workplace was fun and lighthearted, I worked outside of my scheduled times and came in when the folks scheduled were feeling particularly overwhelmed and I did it all with a smile. The shop had a stable influx of regulars who I all loved and enjoyed being around. Genuinely- for the…
“You are going too slow. Your area is underperforming. We’ve had to reduce the number of workers in your area, but we expect you to hit the same results.” Wait, what? Now we all know that businesses are doing this. Reducing the number of workers and expecting the remaining workers to compensate, but to actually say that to my face is just disgusting. Where is this money going that they are saving by cutting down on the workforce cause I’m not seeing any of it, but you want me to do extra work for the same pay? I was getting ready to go off on this person, but my direct manager (who actually treats me with respect) was standing behind them and pleading for me to stop so I backed down. So pissed off that I decided to leave work after break and debating if I want to take off…
I've been thinking about this for a while now, and wanted to post this morning, and thought well nahh, not necessary. Now, I'm getting fed up. My mom (61YO) keeps asking me about having days off, taking days off, pretending to be sick and the like to basically play hookey with her. She does this a lot despite me constantly telling her, 1. I have a set number of PTO per year, 2. Sick days = PTO or I don't get paid, there are no sick days, 3. taking a half day off STILL takes up PTO that I need for events like my wedding this year and the honeymoon (to a place that my fiance and I hope to move to cause fuck this USA hellscape). What are they not getting?? She thinks there are just unlimited PTO days, “sick days” are typical, and none of this might affect…
Compelling story
An honest look at corporate culture and the future of many of us in the workforce.
I remember a time where losing a high wage job meant under all circumstances you must take the lower paying job and work to death to get back to the original position. And if you didn't accept that low wage position you were the black sheep of society met with (sometimes extreme) anger Logically and mathematically that just doesn't make sense. Logically because certain low wage jobs are already stressful, so why stack that on with finding another job in your field? Mathematically because one would have to work almost double to cover 1 or 2 bills and that's not including everything else. And then let's talk about the additional time one has to take from said job for things like interviews and assessments. But the anger, that's the real kicker. I feel the anger may stem from past experiences but the idea of someone having a meltdown because Jack…
