Manager trying to get me to cover a position that is paid more than mine.

So to add some context, I’m a Laboratory Technician at an Opioid treatment facility, and I make $14.22/hr. So I received an email telling me I am to be trained, and cover said reception position for a week, with none of the extra pay that position has obviously. I asked if I would be paid more, or get more time off as an incentive for doing so, the answer was no as you may expect. I said I’m not doing it, unless one of those two requirements are met. I was told by said manager that “Well we don’t have enough people to cover the position, where do you think these mysterious people that are going to cover are gonna come from?” To which I named another employee in the same position that is part time, that could theoretically cover. The response was no, and the excuse for said manger…

I got what I wanted

I've been working as a remote IT contractor since last August on a contract to hire basis. My manager loves me, my co-workers welcomed me and got me up to speed pretty quickly and all is well. So when February rolls around I start bothering my manager about converting to full time. He goes back and forth with his boss and we have to wait until April, the new fiscal year. Then more bouncing around for various approvals, and finally it's in the hands of HR. A recruiter will reach out to me and does so as we're in the middle of a 400 mile drive for our summer vacation. After dancing around with the various benefits (actually a pretty decent package, and including our preferred health care provider), he gets to the numbers. He offers to cut my salary by $15k/year from my current wage. I tell him if…

New owners just announced they’re getting rid of performance based pay increases

Guess I'll just do the bare minimum then since I know doing anything beyond that won't get me any extra compensation (we used to get quarterly performance bonuses before the first owner sold out). If hard work is only rewarded with more work, then I'll only work juuuuust hard enough to keep my job and my health insurance.

Taken off coverage schedule twice (I signed myself up)

So, I work in an office. I’m not going to go into specifics just to be safe. But my boss makes a coverage schedule for holidays where people can sign up to be ‘on call’. I signed up for Monday, July 3rd yesterday afternoon. My boss makes a comment in our work chat today that he still needs someone for Monday. I check the schedule, and my name isnt on there. I’m confused so I put my name down again (its a google docs spreadsheet). It gets taken off AGAIN, and I know its by my boss. A coworker of mine replies in chat that they can be on coverage for Monday and he adds their name after taking mine off and closes the document. I have always felt that he dislikes me for some reason. Ive always gotten a bad feeling from him. I thought I might be overthinking…

Insubordinate behaviour

Hello, I'm wondering what your opinions are on this type of behaviour. Personally I have mild autism and am just going to work to do just that. My work. Be economically active. I do this as a junior accountant. I found that I work a lot more efficient if I do my own planning. Like I'm far more profitable this way and it allows me to be more at ease. My superior has told me numerous times that I shouldn't make my own planning and that I have to listen to her when she gives me a task. Personally I look at what work is available and make my own to do list. When I get asked to do stuff then I add it to my own list. It will be done let's say a day later than if I do it instantly. It doesn't look as if it matters…

Job required employees to live in shared apartment with $40/wk per diem

This happened several years ago, but I felt like it was worth posting here. Back in 2019, I was living in Sacramento, CA and underemployed. I have a Master's degree in my field, but interviews were still hard to get. I landed a phone interview for a sort of fire prevention maintenance worker for a company called Mountain G in Folsom. Mountain G was a subcontractor for a state project; they had large teams of people cleaning up forested areas within the state to prevent wildfires. This was a reaction to the large wildfires, including the Paradise fire, that happened in 2017/2018. The phone interview for this position was completely unplanned and caught me off guard, but thankfully I was at my second job cleaning a barn, so the only distraction was a noisy rooster. The woman told me that the pay was $17.50/hr, with plenty of potential for overtime.…

Question about overtime.

Hi guys so I have a question. So on my starting paperwork for my job under overtime it is OT 2.0x so does that mean I'm supposed to be paid double time for any overtime I complete? I just got my first check and it only has my OT at 1.5x. I'm based in California.
