It was illegal to pay our predecessors so little (but go ahead and gaslight young workers that this isn’t the truth)

Question: is this illegal? If so, what can I do about it?

First thing’s first, I am a temp employee with a contract that lasts from anywhere between 6 months and 1 year. I get paid hourly, $15.50. Been working at what I will call the “Three Letter Company” for almost exactly 4 months. This is my first professional position, and it is also remote. Today I found out my coworker is going to be out for the rest of the week. I’m the only person available to take his shift, since we are the only 2 people working in this specific department. That in itself doesn’t bother me, he’s a nice guy and I don’t mind picking up the slack at all. What does bother me, however, is how my manager responded to my question about overtime pay. Our company has a limit on how many OT hours you can work per week. As of the time of this post, that…

Can an employer monitor personal devices?

Can an employer force employees to download monitoring software on personal devices used for work? (Employees access work tools via website.) Also, can downloading these tools be made a condition of employment?

2nd Job gone, deemed ‘too inflexible’… but only given schedule at the end of shift

11 dollars an hour for a part time job where the tips sometimes disappear into the owners pocket, could barely break 20 hours a week (and the math doesn't math right either). My first job had an emergency today and had to fill in for someone. Legally obligated 'cause healthcare. If I hear another 'nobody wants to work anymore' I am going to verbally flay someone's ego from their soul.

Rejected from Phone Screen

What a time to be a full time remote employee. The exploitation is real. Ultimately I think they were looking for a principal for the price of a mid level developer.

Companies eliminating remote work options

Anyone else working for an employer who allowed remote work, both pre/post pandemic who are now being told that they want people back in the office? For those who may be in that situation, how are people reacting? Have people resigned over it? The company I work for is now taking a firm stance on it, even for those hired specifically as remote workers. Many people are upset as it kills work life balance and they feel the company isn’t being straightforward about “why”.

Not getting a raise

Hey y’all. First time poster on this sub and I just really need to rant. Please delete if it’s off topic. BRO I was supposed to get a raise at the beginning of the month and the date has been pushed back to September. (In September I will have been with the company for a year.) I haven’t gotten a single raise since I’ve started and the higher ups have been talking about raises for like two months. I think it’s because I’m in retail at the moment and our company has been in the red the past few months. I know this because I’m one of the assistant managers and I can see all the sales for every store in the company. They hired a new staff at the other location in town and their entire staff is making more comparatively than my team. From associates all the way…

So, some guy and his friends tried to literally overthrow the US government, and we just…like…let his son and grandson be a part of said government? Am I reading that correctly?

How many hours per week would it take you to complete your work tasks?

I’m currently employed as a business analyst. If I’m being generous, it takes me 10-15 hours per week of actually working to complete my job functions. The rest of the time, I’m just “on call.” I could spend that time generating work for myself, but I have zero incentive to do so, as anything I’ve brought to leadership in the past has been dismissed as not being a priority. I haven’t met many people (especially in white collar positions like my own) who actually NEED to work 40 hours per week to accomplish their work tasks, which leads me to wonder why there’s still such a corporate obsession with the 40 hour work week. If I can do the work that needs to be done in less time, why am I being penalized for being efficient? Wouldn’t it help everyone to have that time back to contribute to their households…
