Fastest burnout I’ve ever experienced…

I have been in the Beverage and Hospitality industry the past 8 years working in every possible role you can imagine, from dishwasher to Bar Management for a Nightclub. I am no stranger to high-stress, fast-paced environments. A few months ago I decided I wanted to get some more “professional” work on my resume. I took a job with an international company as an Office Admin. Seemed alright. $21/hr, good benefits and during my interview my boss touted “work life balance” and “fair distribution of work”. Well, that was a lie. This job had me working 8-5 Monday through Friday, constantly answering phone calls and dispatching our service technicians. It immediately became apparent that the office was severely understaffed, and the Regional office held no sympathy towards us. Very quickly the high-ups started micromanaging every aspect of our day, from the moment we clocked in to when we took lunch…

Military reserve training coverage – AITA?

So my co-worker is in the military reserves and when they have training, it’s solely my job to cover them in addition to my normal work. While I don’t know much about how military reserve schedules are made and training works, I’ve always heard the expression, “one weekend a month, two weeks a year”. My gripe here is that those weekends always consist of a Friday off work. I believe last year it came out to 9 Fridays total. I thought these were weekends? When the two weeks rolls around, it’s my job to do both jobs. My boss doesn’t seem to know the exact dates either (to my knowledge) and they aren’t logged into our absence system as days off for training or whatever. They just put up their OOF, and nobody seems to bat an eye. It’s probably petty to gripe about it here, but do I have…

Rant: Somebody who comes into the office maybe 3-4 times a year scowled when people were leaving at 3pm

I work for a publicly traded corporation worth billions of dollars and ever since Covid hit myself and a handful of others that I'm aware of have been fighting to keep being able to work from home as much as possible. My boss is pretty cool about things and allowed me to continue working from home as needed for my life schedule. I come in 3 days a week which is fine for me right now. For the past 3+years our facility basically cuts off shipping after 2:30 unless its an emergency and I typically do not need to be on site once this occurs as I can continue working from home if need be (I don't really ever need to continue). In any case, I make sure the job I'm hired to do is done and in order whether I'm working a full week or taking some time off…

Bate & switch

So sick of places I apply doing the bate and switch. It's either with hours or pay. How do they think starting a business agreement with a clear lie ends well?? (cause taking on a job is a form of a business agreement)Like I'll get an offer to work 6 am/2:30. Get a second interview or get hired and told to come work 8/5. Like bro, I have a life outside your “work life”. Or better yet paying 22 up 26. I ask for 26, and they are like we don't pay that much. And I can't pay that much when no one here currently makes that much…. trick why you list that? Let me guess you got flexibility listed as a benefit as well, but you meant flexibility for you!

Hiring manager gave job away

I was offered a job, told the manager in the interview I needed the evening to think about it considering I had down several interviews that day and needed to hear back from some of them. Hiring manager said to text him the next day to set up a schedule. I text him. Hear nothing Text him a day later. Says he was busy yesterday and but somehow has given the job away to two other people. Guess that’s why he was busy Should I just pretend like every job is life or death? Every interview is the ONLY job I’d ever be interested in Mentioning that I am considering options (exactly what every hiring manager says ) is apparently not groveling or desperate enough for them Am I just bitching or is this a real problem Either way, PTSD, and former abusive bosses have made getting hired after Covid…
