Anti-work is more anti-people

If the people you're working with are not decent people, it's gonna suck where you work. I was just ganged up on at work for the siliest reason, this reason being the tip of the iceberg. I was trying to explain that gallbladder issues can cause and increase in gas. And for some reason they all (2 coworkers + 1 supervisor) decided to argue with me yet again. Considering I know for a fact that I'm right and that I'm also literally going through it right now with my own gallbladder, I decided to give it a couple tries to convince them otherwise, even citing a medical website. No luck because once I stated what the site said it was then turned around on me and apparently that's not what I was saying at all anyway. So, I said “fuck you all,” clocked out early, and went home. A little…

Possible Wage Theft Attempt (Tennessee)

Howdy fellow workers! I have a question about a potential wage theft situation in Tennessee. My wife works for a non-profit, and she recently got an offer for another job at a different non-profit in town. She turned in her notice since the new place asked her to begin June 1. For her current job, she was asked a few months ago to go to a work conference happening this week. For weeks, the plane tickets and lodging have been secured and paid for by the company card. Since giving her notice, though, her boss told her she would not be going on the trip so she can tie up loose ends before leaving. Enter today when her boss came back to give an ultimatum: either she sends them a check for the price of the plane ticket for this trip or they deduct the cost of the plane ticket…

Getting hit by a child at work, how to deal with it?

My wife is a preschool teacher and one of her toddlers has been smacking her in the face, biting her, destroying the classroom, running away etc. The child is generally a terror and the parents refuse to take any action. Any time any of these happen, an incident report should be filled out and signed off on by the parents, but the amount of incident reports was overwhelming so now administration has them just do one for each type of action and say it happened multiple times. My wife clearly can't hit the child, is not allowed to do time out, and even if she ignores the other kids and solely focuses on him, he will still hit/bite her. I'm sick of her coming home angry and upset that this kid is being a dick and she has no support. The administration is full of (so far) empty promises and…

Benefits in return for monitoring

Saw a presentation today where a survey of 5,000 employees showed that 76% of employees are willing to submit to certain levels of monitoring in return for some benefits. I felt this was bullshit… anyone else?

Our Company “Doesn’t Pay for Performance”…

Some have been lucky like me. They have found a job that they love and want to give their all towards it. It’s a great feeling! However, when my boss went to HR on Friday to petition for a raise, she was met with “[Company] doesn’t pay for performance”. Which not only chaps my already chapped ass, but was upsetting to my boss as well. She’s worried that she’s going to lose me, and frankly, I can’t blame her. She offered to be a reference for any job I find, but she’s going to continue to fight to get me more. Today, I applied for 2 jobs. Both making at least 50% more than I am right now. I thought I would feel guilty (I always used to when thinking about leaving a job), but I just feel offended and pissed off. No wonder I feel like everyone around me…

NYS work question

Hey all, As the title states I have a question about some thing pertaining to my job. I’m a bartender and I love where I work. Until now my manager and boss has been fair to me and my coworkers. There’s a new employee contract they released that claims that all front of house staff have to sign up a day or two to do a deep clean of the bar and restaurant. The space is large so it’s hard to do a full scale cleaning after our long shifts. Problem is, a lot of people like myself have other jobs and are in school thus preventing us from coming in during the day to do this cleaning. The cleaning is of course paid ($16 an hour) but I’m in college plus I don’t want to do it because I don’t care. Is it legally possible for them to fire…

Got kicked out of lunch room at work for “eating too close to food”

If that sounds insane, it's because it is. I got kicked out of the lunch room at work for eating my lunch “too close” to an ugly charcuterie board that the manager made. She was like “yeah, we're not doing that, you have to eat somewhere else, I mean do you really think it's a good idea to eat this close to food?” I had to eat in my hot car. So I decided to no longer take my lunches inside the building (I'm supposed to as I'm a security guard) if they complain I will simply inform them that I've been asked not to eat in the lunchroom because I might be eating too close to food.

Does lowering your wage for missing a day count as retaliation?

I recently been looking into some quick hire in jobs through temp agencies and one of them told about a job that is 14 an hour as an “attendance bonus” and if I miss a day any time that week the wage would drop to 12 an hour until the next week. Does this count as retaliation? And is this even legal? Based on a job near ohio
