Hey all, absolutely love this sub, however I also wanted a place to discuss UK-centric work issues, rights and reforms, so I took over r/Antiwork_UK. Come join r/Antiwork_UK to share UK specific advice, and to find resources/info on UK strikes, unions, laws etc. [Posted with antiwork mod approval, solidarity for workers, fuck yeah!]

Trying to create some wage transparency

Hey everyone, I was frustrated that most online resources on pay were primarily made for high(er) wage salary workers (i.e. Glassdoor, Indeed) and that there was a lack of easily digestible resources for hourly workers, so some friends and I created a tool to help hourly workers find out what jobs are paying in their area. When setting this up, I was surprised to find significant differences in pay between employers for similar jobs. Even the same job from the same employer can have significant differences in pay in the same city. I hope that this tool can empower us to understand what fair pay is and what our options are out there. Currently, the data we have is collected from public job postings found online (most of these are from the new wage transparency laws in states like New York, Colorado, and California with more states hopefully to come).…

should i be concerned for my safety

i will be quitting my job next wednesday, no notice, after 3 years. i have handwritten pages of illegal and abusive instances that have taken place over the years committed by the manager against myself and clients. there are clear signs of embezzlement. these pages will very likely completely ruin the managers life for the foreseeable future. he will lose his job and possibly have to have his brand new home and luxury car foreclosed on/repossessed. i was speaking with my parents yesterday about my plan to exit, and they are in full support of me. they asked me if i though the manager would do anything violent. i did not think about that prior, but now see it as a very real possibility. he carrie’s a gun and i have seen him lose his temper and scream on countless occasions. i am trying not to freak out about this,…

Why is it legal for employers to lie about who and what they are?

just got back from an in person interview that I've been eagerly awaiting since last week. Mind you, this is the first in person interview I've gotten in almost 4 months because the job market it shit, shady, and broken asf lately as we all know. This company i was interviewing for was a small, privately owned, new delivery company. I read their indeed profile, looked at reviews, went to their website, everything i could to learn about this company. They said they paid 18-20 an hour, had every insurance under the sun, 401k, and pto. sounds h e a v e n l y . i was ecstatic. Tell me why i pull up to their stablishment… and it was a facade for fucking amazon. It was a fake ad, for a company that was bought out by amazon. i wouldn't have even been working for the company listed…

It feels so wrong to ask for a raise every year for at least the inflation percent and owners are more willing to fire you than give it to you if you ask. But companies do ask for a raise in what we pay every year and some of them go for the “I know I can get more money out of you, 40% increase”.

There is a big PR problem with strikes and protests – when people are inconvenienced, these days they blame the PROTESTERS, not the greedy business or the callous politician or whatever. How do we direct that anger where it needs to go – to the people that causes these protests in the first place?
