Long story short.. I was a manager. I only had one employee under me. This employee went to my boss and lied and said I threw something at them. Without warning or conversation, I was fired the following Friday. I had been there for 4 years, just got a great review and a raise. All my coworkers were shocked I was let go and several people cried during the meeting when they found out. I'm heartbroken. Why didn't I at least get written up? It's a small nonprofit with 10 people in the department I was in. It was my dream job. I don't understand how people can be so cruel. I had no reason to believe I was on the verge of termination. I'm planning on writing an email to my former boss, CEO, and HR. It won't make a difference but I'm going to try to at least…

This is the original Reddit post where I've talked about those threats. Another fun story: The company edited their original response (the one that contained all of those pathetic insults) with a new and more appropriate one. Also, there was an enormous amount of dislikes on my comment at the moment of posting it (9:65 ratio), that have been removed later on when they realized their spam bot mission_ was a big failure. Luckily, there is a think called Web Archive that still contains the old cached page before the edit went through (make sure to prepare a translator): Earlier version (with dislikes): https://web.archive.org/web/20230510150727/https://www.joberty.rs/it-kompanija/879/factor-blue-doo/razgovor-za-posao Live version (with dislikes removed): https://www.joberty.rs/it-kompanija/879/factor-blue-doo/razgovor-za-posao The original response: Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for not forgetting us even a year later. Everything you stated is incorrect and taken out of context in order to vent your frustration at the fact that you will not…

What made you join r/antiwork?
I have noticed a lot of people here, myself included, joined this subreddit after their experiences with horrible jobs/bosses/pay. What made you join this subreddit? I’ll start – My first job was at a local ice cream parlor. I was paid minimum wage + tips, which would be split up between the 3-4 workers every night. Keep in mind, this was my first job so I didn’t really understand how tips would be divided among the workers (as did most of the other employees there). After a few months, I started to realize how weird it was that my boss counted the tips by himself and only gave us our tips at the end of the night in exact change. I finally knew something was up when I saw multiple $20 bills in the tip jar and a ton of cash, but by the end of the night my boss…
Let me explain, I’ve worked under whiny managers who would be asked for quality of life improvements or a simple raise and they’d always respond with some smug answer. To their credit, usually the smug answers and laughter would be about the QoL improvements, while raises would be met with either “not now” or “that guy sucks, but asked for a raise” behind the person’s back, instead of their face.
Manager emailed after work hours to schedule a meeting first thing in the morning. Wouldn’t say what it was for when I asked—I’ve gotten some negative feedback about my work lately as well which I’ve tried to correct, and this has me super worried. Managers who do this have no regard for employee well-being IMO. Going to now enjoy a night of panic now. Anyone else?
