As obligated, I have to apologize for my insanely long post. In September, I completed my graduate degree in Europe and had been searching for a job there but my visa ran out and I had to come back to my hometown in the US. While awaiting news from a project manager role in Germany, I went to a hiring fair for my town's tourism board (what I had studied) and interviewed on the spot. After 6 interviews and a special assignment from the German company, I was not selected to move on , but the job I had interviewed for in my hometown said they wanted to hire me. No second interview was needed, the catch was that they only wanted to bring me on part-time. So today I got pulled into a private meeting with my manager who just tore me a new one for applying to a position “I didn’t meet the qualifications for”. I have expressed in the past that this was my career choice from the beginning of joining the company and feel that since I already have several years experience within the company and that since we are in the smaller office and HQ controls everything we do the qualifications they had seemed overkill. My manager said I was just wasting everyone’s time by applying and made myself look stupid to management for 1. even thinking I had a chance of getting the job and 2. not telling him or anyone else in management that I was applying. I spent a lot of time debating if I should post this but oh well here we go. I worked at the corporate level of a Popular chain of gas stations majority being in Texas and It was the worst experience of my life. ️ Had to sign a contract I would not sure for discrimination of any kind (age, gender, race, etc) ️ when it came time to get my raise I EARNED they pulled an okie doke and said if I wanted a raise I had to forfeit my bonus. ️ Texas is at will so if you speak up about any injustice you are immediately fired. For example: married Manager slept with multiple employees and he still received a promotion and the women were “reassigned”. ️women were paid less than men even if qualifications were the same. ️a male employee slammed a door in my face multiple…

So, I've gone back and forth between freelancing and jobs for 4 years. I had a great in house marketing role with good pay, schedule and I could be anywhere. I lost that job last month despite being proactive and a team player. I don't belong in the corporate world, don't want to go back to an office, and have gone through 6 jobs in 4.5 years. I can last for at least a year without working between my ROTH IRA basis and savings. I've also noticed that society is decaying and that the future seems really bleak (hard to date, get a house, just shitty). I've considered just traveling, living life and not caring about careers/money until my funds run out. When that happens, I'd kill myself and hope the other side is better. Anyone just binge and call afterwards? Thanks!

Hi. I work at a very difficult workplace where people are bullied into silence and HR is all about keeping up that status quo. Are there any really really good books out there on just how to tackle such a workplace environment? I mean, learning the language they use against them, extremely formal and highly technical, to bring it up in a meeting and sound informed and not just a dumbass with complaints?? Far too many “leaders” have gotten away with anything and everything, while they just push us low wage workers further down and blame us for the mistakes they themselves caused.
