Had today an interesting appraisal interview as temporary worker

Hello ! I am from austria, and because the government allows it, it is quite common that companies – especially big ones – keep temporary workers for long periods of time. Also personnel with higher education. I am an engineer and employed as temp. worker for several years now at the same big company. That has the drawback, that I do not get a yearly bonus like my colleagues, which are employed directly at the company I work at. Besides the general raises enforced trough the union I did also get no other raises or any compensation. The salary is ok, but could be more when I consider for what I am supposed to be responsible. Because of this, I see myself as some sort of “mercenary”: I only work the hours stated in my contract, refuse to to do overtime and generally do not give a crap about that…

Boss wants me to send them an email for approval before I send out to staff? Feeling untrusted and micromanaged

This isn’t like an email going out to 1,000 people. It’s an email going out to a few people at a small business about something internal and not sensitive at all. I’ve been at my job 6 months and yes, I’m still learning, but it makes me feel incompetent that I can’t be trusted to send out a simple staff email. I feel like management at my job is intrusive and I need to stick it out for a year because of life circumstances but Jesus this really pissed me off and made me feel shitty. Anyone else?

Round up my ass

I am over all this round up for charity bullshit. What guarantee that the round up going to charity is there vs. buying back Treasury stock, or inflating the cash reserve, pumping up the cash price or padding executive bonuses. Don’t do it and don’t trust corporate America. It is bullshit!

Ended interview early due to sexist/ non-law knowing interviewer

I just ended a phone interview after 10 minutes. In that time the the guy interviewing me 1. asked me if I got a job at an Army post because my husband was stationed there? 2. Did I enjoy baking because it allowed me to spend more time with my children? 3. Did I move back to Florida because my relationship didn’t work out? I don’t know if those questions were illegal but they certainly were inappropriate. For the record I was active duty AirForce and got selected to a special operations unit on the Army post all by my little self. I have no children and am a widow.

Advice regarding the shopping center I work in?

I work for a retail company as a manager at one of our locations. We are located within a shopping center with a bunch of shops/restaurants. Recently they added these pay to park QR code things you scan, but there is no towing sign/no warnings/nothing enforcing it, and the employee parking is several blocks away unsupervised and multiple people have had their cars broken in there, not to mention it’s hot as hell here so that walk is miserable. I have just been parking and throwing the tickets away because they’re not real tickets / they’re not issued by the police/the city, they are just from the shopping center. One day I went to check on how much I owed by searching the centers website and typing in my license plate number and it was an insane amount within the hundreds. The tickets are initially $10 but if you don’t…

Job would not approve PTO for seeing my Grandmother ring cancer bell.

After many attempts to get PTO approved for other things in the past, I thought it might help my case to include personal info in the reasoning for this attempt. They STILL denied it even when the reason was to go see my grandma complete her chemo therapy and ring the bell. FUCK THIS PLACE.

Why you should never do the right thing and why your boss is never your friend.

My job was terrible. In a year of working there, we had something like 30 people quit and maybe ten people join. I can’t speak too much about what I did because it was classified, but I switched to a similar career field that was just different enough that I went from senior to mid level. This was used to justify why I couldn’t promote or get a raise, but also why when asked for help I was told, good luck! You’re on your own! At one point I was doing two other people’s jobs (who had quit right as I got there) and as soon as I got that under control, another girl was fired—I was trying to hold out through another project and train a new girl when I decided I had to quit. The new girl wouldn’t pay attention, would roll her eyes and pick her nails…

seeking cover letter tips

any tips on how to state this diplomatically: “Dear hiring peeps, I'm sorry you have to read cover letters but I hope you read this because why require it otherwise. I want this job because I need money and this seems like a less morally fraught option than most of what capitalism offers. I am shooting my shot praying that your job description & slick website aren't disingenuous. If this isn't what I hope, I will lose steam quickly so please don't lie. I really wanna do good in this world but I need some grace because I'm so fucking tired.”

Does anyone else get burned out of 4hr shifts?

I used to beg my employer for full time and gave up. I applied to my own job before full time to get more hours and didn't get any. My job works me 6 days a week like 30 hours. Lately I have just not been going to by 4hr shifts like I can't even get out of bed to bring myself to get $50 for working 4hr since the extra $50 doesn't help me get ahead anyway. Does anyone else feel like they can't bring themselves to work a 4 hour shift anymore? I'm about to call our for my 4 hr. Company is Wakefern.

Cold called but refused to give pay info…

Was cold called just now (I already forgot the company, otherwise I'd definitely post it…dammit) Company: “Came across your resume and think you'd be a great fit! Can we go over some of your info?” Me: “What's the pay range?” C: “This is just a pre-interview, that will be discussed later.” M: “Well this is part of my pre-interview. What's the pay?” C: “I'm sorry, I don't have that information right now.” M: “Then why are you calling?” C: click
