Filing a complaint with the labor board??

Hi, I work for a flower farm which is the farthest thing from rainbows and daisies. I am a regular administrative hourly full time employee. I am harassed on my personal phone after and before work hours. I haven’t had a lunch break where I did not have to work in 3 months. If I do take lunch I have to stay and do overtime to finish my work. I developed severe insomnia and panic attacks from the anxiety. My psychiatrist submitted a letter requesting I work from home permanently, as I was doing both, and requested I stay within my 8 hours a day. Since this I have stated not completing my work if it will go over, they have said I must do OT to finish. They have now begun to harass me constantly. If I do not respond within 5-10 minutes they will email me 3 times,…

I was on the final interview before being officially hired on, and had a family emergency come up prior to said interview. I let them know, they said it was fine. Reached out to them this morning and this was the response.

Just venting a bit about my job of 8 years that I’m about to leave

So I work for a medium sized business with about 60 people, factory, office, and semi-truck/diesel maintenance shop. I started as a forklift driver and only worked about 3-4 months in the warehouse before I got an office position. Now I do IT, receipt clerk duties, as well as updating vendor records and inventory. I oversee manufacturing/production records every day and fix discrepancies to keep raw good costs within margin. I do profit analysis on every red-iron building this place produces, as well as lots of other things.. I do a lot of very basic IT stuff that older folks need help with a lot, which is easy. I also take the trash out, basically I gather up all the scrap paper and bring it to a recycling place in the company truck. I do lots of other bullshit, and I'm spread out to every single department. I'm not a…

Something tells me wishing for another pandemic isn’t a healthy thought process to have regarding work.

I was doing online college courses during the pandemic. My boyfriend and I were already homebodies and had all our fun online, and did WFH contract work, too. For us, it was like nothing had changed. We didn’t get the big collective “break” from work that many others did. Now I’m working outside the home (waitress) and I’ve caught myself thinking this morning “damn, kinda wish there would be another pandemic, one I can actually enjoy” I was shocked at that thought. People literally died. “Essential workers” suffered more than ever. Some have lasting health complications. Many committed suicide under lockdown. The economy is in shambles and people risk(ed) losing their shelter because jobs were on hold but payments weren’t always. There was so much terrible shit that happened, yet part of me would start it all again if I had the choice because I’m so fucking burnt out. We’re…

AT&T Shows how little they care… An employee working while dying in hospice.

A friend of mine used to work for AT&T. They quit a few weeks back after what they described as the final straw of AT&T showing how little they cared about employee well-being and how they didn't want to work themselves to death. Apparently, multiple employees (he knows for sure about 7) have had heart attacks or major health problems from overwork and stress on the teams he's worked on, including at least 2 in the position he was in before quitting. This final straw was because they were on a call with management and management was gossiping about, and making fun of, an employee who had recently died. Turns out that for the final few weeks of his life, he had been working remotely and taking calls while in his hospice bed. He was literally dying and hadn't stopped working. My friend just found out from someone who knew…

Small business owner vs traditional employment

Has anyone in this subreddit had any experience with leaving the traditional workforce to open up a small business? What are the pros and cons? Did it improve your quality of life? Would you recommend this? I have had a dream since childhood to open up a neighborhood skate shop and this year have begun to pursue it. The main reasons this attracts me are thus: – I don’t like commuting and I love the idea not having to drive or take the subway to work everyday. – I’d like to have more control over the kind of salary I can make. I have had a lot of experience with fighting hard for raises only for them to be given to me just in time for inflation. – I have never got jaded or tired by skateboarding and extreme sports in general. It’s the only thing in my life that…

Return to Office and Active Shooter Drills

I was hired by a large US bank during COVID fully remote. Last summer there was a mandate to return to office a couple days a week to “increase team bonding”, lol. I don’t mind it too much, schedule has been very relaxed and if there’s a week where I don’t feel like going in I just let my manager know. Last week in our team meeting(zoom meeting btw lol) my bosses boss stated we are now mandated 3 days a week with no exception. Yesterday we held our first active shooter drill. Insane the measures companies will go through to justify having office space. Next year it’ll be a 4 day mandate and then the next year, no WFH option. Currently updating resume, hopefully I can land something else and give honest feedback in an exit interview. Such a backwards mentality.
