Boss messages me on day of my surgery demanding an explanation about some minor work issue. Doesn’t even ask how my surgery went, hasn’t said anything to me since.

I'm going in for a surgery. Relatively complicated procedure but not life-threatening. Long recovery, though, ca 6 months. I work in game development and can start working again one week post-op, barring complications. (If I had any kind of standing/higher mobility job I'd be on sick leave for over a month.) Boss knows I am going in for surgery. I informed him and others personally at least twice before leaving. Surgery is in another city so I have to travel 6+ hours by train to get there and back, including overnight stays in sealed post-op wards at the hospital. Literally the day of my surgery, once I'm awake and in my hospital room. I get one msg from my boss. The only thing he says is demanding to know why [minor record-keeping task that has zero urgency and can easily be considered subsumed under an extensive report I gave him…

Boss got a new standing desk because it’s “good for your health” but just his.

My boss was showing off his new standing desk today so I came in to his office to check it out. I've never seen one so i asked him why he got it. He said because research says that sitting all day is bad for you and standing every couple of hours is good for your health. So i asked him “oh, so are we all going to get standing desks?”. And he said…. “No, that would be to expensive”. By the way, it's a small office. It's only six more of us. It's such a small thing but after that, every time I walked by his office and saw him standing I was reminded how they know how to make our life better, it's just not in the budget.

Mental Health > Career

Posted this on r/self but wanted to commiserate here too and see what the sub has to say (if I’m being a bad employee or if I have a right to be frustrated). I just came on here to rant because I’m pissed. I was up for hours last night shaking and crying, I’ve been going through some things in my personal life that have been effecting my mental health. I wrote out a polite text explaining this to my current boss, essentially saying I’ve been struggling lately and I won’t be in today. I work at a school as a parapro and this is the last week of school so I figured it was not a huge deal as it’s not like I have an entire class to be watched and groups are essentially disbanded at this time of year. However my boss sent back something whiny along the…

How much effort to put in as an underpaid intern when you’re bored?

Hi everyone, looking for some guidance from people with a healthy approach to work that won't just tell me to rise and grind lol Some background: I just graduated in March and moved to another city in another country for this internship, which I am doing mainly for the experience of living abroad. The wage is not competitive for someone who holds a master's degree in my field at all, it's not even a livable wage considering the cost of living here. I am interested in the content and the field, but the main task I was hired for is pretty boring. Whenever I've worked in the past, I've found that my approach to work is not rewarded in a normal office setting but rather punished, so I've been deliberately underperforming and not handing in things the minute I finish etc. I want to do good work generally, but once…

HR director owns stake in company but they do not offer ESOP

This seems like it should be illegal to me. I’m not sure on exact laws regarding this as i had trouble finding anything online. She is one of maybe ten people who own stake in the company. It’s clear as day that she makes decisions driven by her ownership in the company. I am ignorant on this topic and any insight is appreciated!
