I'm friends with someone who is currently employed at Ulta and boy do I gave some tea for you. She wouldn't feel safe saying this, so I'm speaking for her. Have you ever felt pressured to give your phone number to start a loyalty account? So because the answer is yes, I'll let you in on a lil secret she told me. Ulta employees can and have literally gotten fired for having too many transactions without a loyalty attached. If you are a person without a loyalty account and DO NOT want one, make that very clear but please be nice about it. Or, give the number of someone who you know has or might have one. Long story short, I have been dealing with family issues and I have mental health problems with depression and I am a very anxious person. Sometimes I ask for some hours off to my supervisor. So from the start I overshared. I was naive as this is my first job ever in my career. Now I called HR and my supervisor to speak about my burnout and the problem that we have in my team with loads of work. And the boss doesn't know when to say no to superiors so I am overworked to the point I developed burnout and I dread coming to work and I am thinking about quitting. They discredited that I have burnout because of work because of past mentions about me having mental health issues. There’s roughly 30 good careers that I can think of that you can possibly retire from after 20 years. Active duty military, police, teachers, government jobs (State, Local, Federal), pilots, firefighters, etc. This doesn’t seem to add up. You’re telling me out the 300 million people that live in America only a few will ever have the chance to retire? Am I dumb or does this make sense at all?

Most everything I see here is either complaint or folks reporting the next crony-capitalistic abuse. I've seen very little by way of work free life solutions, or work free community building, advice, lifestyle etc. Am I just not reading enough, or has the community evolved away from its roots?

I love this forum. Some of you are clearly operating on an intellectual level I can work with, and I've read some well thought posts of people I am convinced are a hell of a lot smarter or at least way more experienced than me. I appreciate this, I really do. But some people lurking in here just to post angry memes about being wage slaves, or whatever. That is not intellectual, and it isn't worth my time. That's fine, I just won't respond to those, you do your thing, I'll do mine. No big deal, this place is big enough for all of us. I'm just curious if anyone else is feeling like this? It seems like everyday im fighting to make it through. I use to work 90 hours per week for a very long time. Now it's like i struggle in this relatively easy, good paying remote job to make it through 40. Every day i fight quitting, and am actively trying to get fired so i can chill on unemployment because i have a way better paying job starting in like 7 months though. I look back on my life and I'm disgusted that i wasted so much time working. And I feel that if i continue working to any extent, any longer that I'll go crazy. The other day I asked my boss for a raise. She lowered her voice and said “you make more than most of the people here, more than my assistant, don't tell them that.” So, no to a raise and I definitely want to tell them all how much I make. Though one co-worker has been angry since we discussed our wages. The interesting thing is I make a bit less than $13/hr. I think it's the type of job everyone should be making at least $14/hr. How can this be improved? Is there a way? Everything is so expensive, we need more money.
