I spent 10 years working for a 4-star hotel in downtown Chicago. I am an actor, so I needed a job to get consistent income that also was flexible enough for me to be able to hit every audition that my agent was able to get for me. Basically, that meant that anything beyond entry level would require more of my time than I was willing or able to give. I was a doorman and bellman. Over the years, I was able to gain seniority, which meant that I could choose my scheduled shifts (7a-3:30p, 3p-11:30p, 11p-7:30a) and was usually able to find someone willing to trade shifts or even pick one up if I got a big audition or booking. The place also offered excellent benefits (they covered 80% of premium costs). I achieved some success acting over the years and the job was one reason why I was…

Left a job due to bullying
Recently left a job that I wasn’t at very long because of bad bullying. Higher up refused to do anything about it so I left. Found a new job pretty fast (luckily) and I start this week. I am petrified of the same thing happening so I’m being pretty negative about the whole situation
Ok I know its pretty much always been this way, but I guess the actual question I'm asking is Why. I'm at the beginning of setting up my social media manager business with the idea of being a digital nomad at the end…but at the moment I don't have a big source of income and I'm looking for ways to make money on the side while I get my business going. I've just started looking into VA jobs as a side hustle or PT job. Yesterday I signed up on Freelancer and Fiverr because they're the most popular sites for finding work, now though I'm getting quickly disallusioned because it feels like even if I want to do this as a side project, I still have to make a whole business out of it even when I have a business already and people hiring are stil doing their usual bullshit…

Asked to be laid off
My company had layoffs couple weeks ago and I was not included in the layoff list. I asked my boss to be included but he didnt seem to believe me. So I went to my boss’s boss and asked him. Interestering enough the guy wasnt pissed off and actually said would try to make it happen. This has been over a week ago and I followed up, but no final decision yet. Apparently useless HR guy was on vacation. Anyone ever been in a situation like this?
Imagine if we actually stood up for ourselves to make a change. I have heard Americans defend not getting any mandatory vacation time, or any mandatory parental leave. They're the clowns of society. People who do that are part of the reason this subreddit has to fucking exist. Why do people defend not getting any vacation, or parental leave? Their entire fucking identity revolves around work, and they've been brainwashed terrible things might happen to their economy if they are treated like human beings, instead of robots programmed to grind for their company. They've been brainwashed by the news to defend our working style, and to believe that China or other countries having worse working laws make ours any less terrible. Now imagine if they got their heads out of their asses, and we demanded changes like the Europeans do. Everyone needs the red pill to realize that corporations wouldn't…
Self-Explanatory There's other stuff involved like another guy being there helping my boss get onto the 2nd floor of the storage unit connected to the main building, looking inside the car, and some mostly inaudible banter with a few hateful slurs able to be heard, but I figured that just showing the part that matters will make this more straight forward. Because there's no excuse for it. Yes, political disagreements and me saying I won't be voting for any local or the upcoming federal election after I was aggressively forced into the conversation, resulted in my boss melting down with some choice words, accusations of me being a socialist, and accusing me of hating America. Didn't matter when I tried to explain the lack of progress or action about various problems that effected ME and others who weren't in a bubble, but he decided to dismiss me as an…
Fuck whoever decided that laying people off without notice was okay. And Fuck whoever decided we should thank our employer for an opportunity when they fire/lay off staff. No severance or warnings in a lot of situations. Why should we give 2 weeks when they don't? Like damn can business owners who are going to lay off people never remember that the people you are letting go are not happy about leaving. It just makes no sense
