I had an interview with Lowe’s about 15 years ago and it was hilarious to me. It was the peak of the recession in America and I had just quit a warehouse job because the management was incompetent (multiple higher ups not on the same page with anything directly effecting me and my coworkers). I go into this Lowe’s interview and sit down with the first guy, pretty chill dude, likes me a lot. Okay sweet. Then the second interviewer comes in, straight laced take-myself-super-serious type (we’ve all met one I’m sure). He asks me why I quit my very well paying warehouse job in the middle of a recession and I told him the truth, incompetent management. THE WAY THIS DUDE STARED AT ME! I swear I will never forget it. It was like he was absolutely appalled that I would say such a thing about the DIVINE managers.…

According to Google, employers spend hundreds of millions of $ to defeat unions yearly. Amazon spent $14 million alone last year. I wonder why? Cause unions work. Also, it’s required for companies to report their union busting, but many don’t.
Workers make everything possible
Today in tech news, your fun AI tool is brought to you not by magic or tech genius but by regular old labor: headline: the horrific content a kenyan worker had to see while training ChatGPT. subhead: the bot that can write anything for you has already taken a human toll Workers deserve all the credit and all the reward, period. Is ChatGPT coming for you?
I recently was told that the C-suite is interested in using ChatGPT to replace many of the functions of my position. To give more context – I’m a new hire with a background in senior leadership who took a pay cut to pivot into a new area of my industry based on the promise of “endless opportunities for growth.” I have horrible anxiety now because I left a very, very good job – a job that definitely could not be replaced by ChatGPT, only to find myself in this position in less than a year… I am having nightmares, day terrors, crying jags, and panic attacks. Wondering your thoughts, advice, experience in this area. Thanks is advance!
I don’t know how to handle this rage outside of having an urge to comment on every damn article like a troll. You want to know what’s driving lost productivity? Wages. That’s it. I am sick of seeing CEOs making so much more than rank and file workers. I’m tired of seeing each level do what they can to keep the level below them down. “When I started in ‘that’ job, I got paid $10/hour.” That was over 20 years ago and we should be paying our new hires at least $19/hour if you want to use that base. We are fighting over pennies and small portions of the pie while we should be demanding CEOs and top leadership adjust their wages to a more equitable split. We finished paying out a severance package and have that full salary budgeted for the rest of the year. I suggested we use…
Was working at this Caffe restaurant for a couple years, it was casual, but sketchy as fuck. Australian laws require employers to pay super, and the casual rate is meant to be $25 minimum. Somehow the owner wasn't giving anyone super and most people were getting under $25. Also we served alcohol but not everyone had a liquor license in the front (also required). Anyway, He sucked. Despite us being busy all the time he couldn't pay people right, or follow proper law, or even keep staff for long. Soon some complaints about super from former employees got to court and the feds came chasing after him, the owner closes, gives the fourteen staff who worked and cared about the place that the Caffe was gonna shut on the 7th of April… He told us on the 1st. He closes, declares bankruptcy, and disappears in a pit of depression and…
