I just watched the first 2 episodes and I really don't get it. In the show we're just following people around on the job and in their home life, with the occasional Barack Obama appearance or voice over (he and Michelle are executive producers) in which he shares the most service level basic facts about the US economy and it's work culture, or has a little chat with one of the people the episode focuses on. It feels so cynical for some reason

I (31) have worked as a bartender for the last ten years to make my way through school. Now I have my masters, have worked in screenprinting production, specialize in intaglio and lithography printing but there’s no jobs that pay more than 17 an hour. The service industry is weighing on me. After the pandemic, I’m not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but customers have become more demanding physically and emotionally. More over most bartenders I know are barely scraping by post covid. The industry is making me feel jaded. I’m getting married this year and we literally have no money. We can barely afford rent. Most of the time I love my job. It pays well and I usually only have to work afound 35 hours a week. I just had my quarterly review and was told part of the metrics they use to measure performance also includes if you participate in team activities. I wouldn't have a problem with this but these activities are on the weekends and not during office hours. We have a team activity today where they want us to all attend a sports game from 6-10pm. I absolutely hate sports. I would pay money to NOT go to a sports game. It's Saturday night and some of the only time I get with my SO. Basically what the title says. For the past few years, I’ve (23/F) been working at a super popular coffee chain. I moved across the country last year and I’ve been working at the same coffee place inside of a grocery store for the past 6 months. This location is a complete disaster. Management has infringed on our workers’ rights several times and our concerns and protests are unheard. That’s part of the reason I’m leaving, but also because my direct manager (64/F), we’ll call her Laura, is extremely emotionally unstable and she loves to guilt trip you and make you feel like you aren’t doing enough. This is going to get downvoted into oblivion, but how do most of the posts here meet the subreddits intent? This community is described as: “A subreddit for those who want to end work, are curious about ending work, want to get the most out of a work-free life, want more information on anti-work ideas and want personal help with their own jobs/work-related struggles.” This, and most other posts like it, are just people complaining about the most random stuff. On the post earlier about live in butlers, one person commented that each of these people should make 150-300k each! What are we talking about?! A vast majority of the tasks listed there are things most people have to do on their own anyways, not some highly specialized task. So I enjoy all the posts of struggles other workers go through with their jobs and I often relate. First time posting, but I could post something on the regular if I took the time. The other night I was having mild heart attack symptoms, very mild and being over 50 with high cholesterol, I was concerned but not so worried that I went in immediately to be seen. I messaged my adult son and the next morning his girlfriend had messaged me and then called me to say that she is taking me to the ER. I declined at the time because I am well aware of the cost to go to the doctor, let alone the ER and charges with labs, xrays, the ekg, etc. Big bucks.
