I posted a couple of days ago about how my password was changed to my work accounts out of nowhere. I thought that either I was hacked or maybe even fired. Most likely fired.

I couldn’t sleep throughout the night and kept waking up from nightmares about work. It was a mess when I went into work the next day. I did text my executive director (ED) the same night I found out my information was changed but of course, I got no response from them and I know they read my message because they have read receipts turned on. Thirty minutes into the work day, I text them again and they respond within about 20 minutes telling me they were going to try to figure out what happened. At this point, my colleagues know about what’s going on because I had asked them if they had any of their information changed and they didn’t, they had complete access to their accounts. They didn’t know anything either and have the same thought that they are trying to fire me but think it is so…

The same bosses and executives that tell you to work hard to get yourself ahead in your career are the ones trying to find any way they can to do less work themselves.

Just a shower thought.

Job hopping lead to some… coincidental schadenfreude, as well as the biggest pay increase in my life.

In the past year I have had 3 jobs. My first job of the 3 was a bear… I did 60 to 80 hour weeks every week and was fucking miserable. I made about 65k… The second job I worked for a branch of the government for a while as a contractor. I loved working for that branch too. It was the most rewarding and fulfilling job I had, I was doing something that directly benefited my country, had a positive impact on people, and I got to work from home quite a bit. I was making about 82k here. Honestly I was sad to go because I liked the government employees I worked with. I like the contracting team I worked with…. I just absolutely hated the contracting company. I will likely never be a contractor again because of my experience. The manager, for the contracting company, was out…

Businesses wield their debt as a weapon against labor. Here’s how it works and how to fight it.

Ever wondered why our ever-growing economy seems to always teeter on the brink of collapse? One of the reasons is that businesses use debt as a way to get the upper hand in labor negotiations. They purposefully drown the company in debt and push it closer to bankruptcy so that when the workers try to negotiate a better deal, the corporate says “Sorry, we're broke”. When a company has debt, it needs to use its future profits to pay it off. That leaves less money for workers and also increases the risk of bankruptcy, which is mildly inconvenient for CEOs and shareholders, but awful for workers since their entire livelihood is on the line. This debt tactic is efficient in both weakening the negotiating position of unions and preventing unions from forming altogether. Of course, in rare cases when the unions get first dibs in case of bankruptcy, this debt…

My time at scamazon

Scamazon taught me that if you really bust your ass, prove your worth, chase after innovation and pursue promotion you’ll only acquire more work and less wealth. I was by all accounts the top performer, top kpis, adviser to all peers, sme for leadership and driver of projects. But the way my promos worked out, I’d be promoted right before yearly review so I never earned the top performer budget increases. “Scamazon’s philosophy is that if you were promoted in that year, it should be impossible that you were a top performer since you are new to your role for a good chunk of that year. Even if you finish strong, your top end year performance balances with your starting “needs improvement” to a nice average “achieves”” with the standard less-than-inflation raise. Now that the stage is set, the point of this post is about a specific story that still…

Demoted or just part of the team?

My company laid my team off this week and then told me I’d be covering their responsibilities, something I used to do 4-5 years ago. It’s too much work for one full time person, that’s why I hired two people, and I still have my responsibilities but they claim it’s temporary. To add, I’ve been taking on more responsibility for the past three years in hopes of a promotion/raise, and now I’m set back. The company has been decent to me otherwise… I don’t make as much as I would if I left, but I at least used to know what my day would look like and enjoy the challenges. Am I a fool for staying, when all that progress I had made has been traded for what I did two roles ago?

Can they give me tips and take my hourly wage instead.

I just took this job and agreed on $17 an hour. That is taking a pay cut from 20.50. I really had to get out of my job as they didn't discipline anybody and everyone was coming and going and doing as they please. They're both cooking jobs line cook. At the place I just started every customer is asked if they want to tip for each transaction. My last place maybe the cashiers would get a few bucks from a nice person but generally tips were very minimal and few and far between. So to the point. Today I got my first paycheck and the hourly rate is $8. And I have some insane amount of money in tips I want to say $600+. (EDIT: $875 which I was told was not a possibility) I chose the best co-worker to explain to me what's going on and he told…

Swedish Reporter on Public News teach how millennials, including the reporter, can change their diet to make ends meet

This is said without even once questioning the salary at her workplace, or the socio-economic inequality in society as a whole. Instead the reporter delivers the message that you can trade your expensive breakfasts of salads and stuff to porridge a couple of days a week, plus stop being addicted to nicotine. The article says it is aimed at millennials that are rich enough to buy an apartment, and thus, for the first time in their lives, can experience unprecedented money issues, as interest adds to inflation. No even a wink at big companies and their CEO:s, making unprecedented profits and getting paid more than ever. Just two experts that explains how young people can save money by learning to live like poor people. For me, this whole piece is outrageous. The none-criticism of salaries plus the way this entire bit disregards poor people like they are merely a natural…

Work did not give me bonuses I thought I was going to get.

I've been working for a year now on this new company. Doubled my basic salary and work is light compared to the previous. Part of our contract is that we will get a quarterly and yearly bonus although the eligibility was not specified in the document. They kept mentioning these bonuses during the job offer, contract discussion and orientation meetings which excited me. However, I didn't get any. Here's how it happened: Q1 2022 – No bonus. Wasn't part of the company yet. Q2 2022 – No bonus as I didn't complete the whole quarter. (I guess that makes sense) Q3 2022 – Completed the quarter but still no bonus because according to them I have to be a Regular employee. (alright) Q4 2022 – Now a Regular employee but still no bonus because according to the eligibility is I have to be a regular employee during the whole quarter.…
