Checkmate capitalists, but unironic Landlords don't do anything, they just buy up housing using mortgages and rent it out at a profit So what skills does that involve, that working in fast food or elder care or customer service doesn't?
Call Center abuse
Hey again-call center worker here. I just want to know what the hell is wrong with the majority of people just not having the basic minimum of common courtesy?? On an hourly basis I am yelled at, threatened, called every name in the book, and basically spoken to like I am the “help.” All while getting paid a glorious $17 an hour. Why would an otherwise normal person treat someone this way? I know things can be super frustrating sometimes but please, PLEASE just realize there is a human being on the other end of the phone. Chances are they are just trying to get through their 8 hours without strangling themselves with the headset cord.
So I've moved from Minnesota to Colorado. Before I left I accepted job offer from Company A, I told them I would be able to start on 5/22. No response from them confirming that, in fact I had to remind them a week later that I accepted their offer and asked if we were moving forward, HR got a hold of me shortly after that. So I filled out all my HR paperwork, did background, etc. Sent the forms back via email. Silence, no reply, nothing, still haven't confirmed 5/22 for a start date. About 3 weeks go by, I get a call from Company B, they offer more money plus vacation time. I accept. Do drug/background. Still nothing from Company A. So today, about a week later, I'm still waiting on the results for Company B, but Company A emails me saying they expect me in the office on…
It feels like everyone I know is so overwhelmed with work. I wish we could organize a way to strike not only our own jobs, but also a way to hurt the bottom line of companies which are artificially increasing prices impact their bottom line. Wishful thinking, but would be epic
How do I say “No Candy for the CEO”?
I have a fairly toxic work environment. Everyone, including the CEO's wife tip toe around waiting for the next yelling tantrum to come from our CEO. I started buying candy to boost morale a couple of months ago. Good stuff to, I'd buy a variety pack, find out what others liked, and buy them full-size bars, etc. They absolutely love it and offer to chip in, or “get next time” and they genuinely mean it. However, the CEO goes over and eats the candy all the time. To try to stop him, I bought a King-size pack of four of his fav. But he keeps going over and taking the candy for “non-director” level employees. How do I (his direct report) tell him to keep his greedy ass out of everyone else's candy?
This was a few years back. I was a teacher in a rural public school. When my husband received his graduation date we learned it fell on the last school day before Christmas break. The district doesn’t allow days before breaks to be requested off because of the tendency for everyone to want that day off to hit the vacation road earlier. With my request I stated the reason, assured administration that I could come in until noon and have everything set up for the Christmas party to be covered by my para and a few volunteer parents. Keep in mind, that many of the kids leave school early that day or don’t even come. I was told absolutely not and that I was expected to be there at the cost of missing a hard earned family event. I have a chronic pain disease that I just work through most…
