CEOs and bosses laying off thousands and raking millions, threats of AI replacing people in the work place, more war and after thousands of years of evolution and science and we still can't feed the hungry or house the poor? Seriously why TF are we on this planet if we can't even work together? The new “minimum wage” is 15 dollars or 30k a year but medium income has now risen to 46k, a whole 16k less than what only some of us are making and much less thsn what unfortunately a lot are as well. I can't even celebrate a birthday because bills won't let up and if something goes wrong, even by a little, than I lose my home or my power or my family doesn't eat.

So we recently had a company meeting where our CEO announced that 2 employees that have been working for 25 years will be receiving a $25,000 bonus.. But I've been working here 27 years and all I got when I had 25 years was a plaque. I brought this up to the CEO and she said that “we weren't doing the $25,000 when you hit 25 years. One of the people who received that bonus check today has been working here 26 years. I know my worth. I know that without me, this company would not be working. I take shorter lunches to help customers, and I've been working here the longest. I don't want to beg for money, but my god, that $25k would help me and my family out so much. I want to meet with the CEO and discuss this in person. How should I approach this??…

Now just dealing with the stress of what to tell a new job when they ask why I didn't put in a notice.. oh boy

I'm a teacher and it's almost the end of the school year. It's time for us to get our contracts for next year. Admin has been talking about how great the raise is and we'll be excited to see it and how happy they are that they were able to secure us one this big. It's one less planning period (had two this year, only one next year) and only a 2% raise. Less time to plan/grade for $1,000. At most school, you get twice that or more if you take on an extra class and give up a planning period. ​ So glad I had an interview already scheduled for today.

Company was acquired, pretty sure I’ll be laid off soon… culture is a terrible fit. I have never been so stressed in my life… on and off anxiety meds etc. I’d like to take a leave but we only have long term disability … I was told short term would be unpaid yet the original owners daughters was on leave and told me she had the first month off paid…. I don’t even know what to do….

I was just reading a post about audiobook voiceovers are made by AI softwares, as it costs so much less. Do you think your role/job could be or already affected by artificial intelligence?
