Lawsuit or nah?
About a week prior to this interaction, I pinched a nerve in my back while carrying 2 50lb bags of cement. Boss told me I had to get a doctors note saying i was all clear to come back to work. I did, and came back on the 28th. However, that day he had a younger guy with him, doing all the same things i was doing. He then told me we had a different job the next day that he would send me to with another installer. Then this happened, and that’s the last time I have ever spoken to him, over the phone or through text. I found a job since then, but something is itching my soul about this. What should I do?
Unpaid shadow work?
I had an interview at a horse barn that I’m considering working at for a summer job. They seemed like very nice people, and the facilities seemed to be very well taken care of. But I was a bit thrown off with their pay system. Firstly they use a contract system rather than an hourly wage system. So you get paid for doing a certain amount of work rather than how long it takes you. When I asked how much it generally works out to hourly they seemed to side step the question by saying that typically people make about 65 dollars a day. And that some of their workers are able to finish in about 3 hours. Never explicitly saying how much the average person spends working, or how much work they actually do. Lastly they said their reasoning for using a contractor system for this is that they…
I just finished working my 90 probationary period and had to sit and justify my position yesterday. I was just hitting my 8 and hitting the gate and they were like there is a thing called work ethic. I was like there is also a thing called a work life balance and they put their tail between their legs. The boss tried to compare his work ethic of owning his own business and having to struggle to me just a peon. I had to remind him that you can’t compare apples to oranges. I told him you knew what you were getting into when you decided to run your own business. It’s a completely different lifestyle that comes with that territory, you chose those trade offs. That shut that conversation down. To make a long story short, I like my job, I like my boss, I can see myself here…

Mandatory meetings outside work hours
I don't know if this type of post is allowed but I need to rant and see if anyone has any advice. I am a salaried employee (although when it comes to me needing a few hours off, those hours are counted against me???) And we regularly have company meetings scheduled for 7:00 AM. Our normal start time is 8. The hourly employees get paid for this time, as well as reimburses for their mileage to drive to the meeting location. I don't even get to leave early after coming in an hour early, and I don't get paid any extra. How is this legal??? Does anyone know of any loopholes?

Basically a 'valued' assistant manager at an A&W had a baby and because of the way maternity pay is structured combined with the poor wages A&W pays its staff, she could only afford to stay home two weeks after giving birth. Her teenage co-workers pitched in their own pay so she could have more time at home. Even with the extra time she is still going to be returning to work when she is still recovering and when she should be off work snuggling her baby. For context here in Canada we do have paid maternity leave, but it is not as grand as it sounds. You need to work a certain number of hours to qualify and the pay is up to 55% of your wages with a maximum of around $600/week ($445USD), so the most you can earn before taxes…
