I know I am wrong but… Strikes rub me the wrong way and seem selfish … like I said I know I am wrong. Help me understand

So I think the writers (and most people) should get paid more and the corporation are just greedy But striking leave such a bad taste in my mouth. Lots of people should be paid more but still go to work. Strikes come off as selfish to me i cant help but think about the cameraman or the catering staff or the Thousand other people who are out of work because of the strike and wont get a raise. On an intellectual level i know am i wrong but emotionally strikes make it very hard to sympathies with them for me. Maybe its years of capitalist brainwashing. I don't understand why they cant work and negotiate, so they don't hurt there co-works. Help me understand why i am wrong …i know I am. What am i missing? thanks

lazy and fake supervisor

I'm having a really difficult time with my supervisor. He's lazy, uncaring, fake, and nit picky. I'm fine that he doesn't really do anything all day but the least he can do is not make other's people job harder. He often talks big about being supportive and that he'll help me with something, but then never does. When something goes wrong, he immediately starts pointing fingers at me or someone else. I'm feeling really stressed and overwhelmed, and I'm not sure what to do. I'm assuming this type of supervisors are a dime a dozen. Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so, how did you deal with it? I'm open to any suggestions. I don't know when this kind of behavior cross into harassment but I've been avoiding the guy. Thanks in advance for your help.

Not Finishing My Last Three Weeks

Extra context- I work at a private elementary school and was told I would have a position next year. This conversation I posted was after my supervisor kept ignoring my contract request via email and text. With the advisement of coworker friend to go and talk to the principal to let her know that I’m interested in returning next year so I did. The Principal seemed excited in my interest in working here next year and that she will look into it. At this point the school year ends in 3 weeks and I’ve only have been fed bits of hope Never a “hey this isn’t looking good” talk, 2 hours after talking to the principal, I get a cold short email from my supervisor stating that I will not be returning next year she gave no reasoning why only that she was sorry if had he over email and…

Increasing specialization and “you’re not supposed to make a living flipping burgers”

Hey guys. Just wanted to talk about two things I see as a huge issue that I haven't necessarily seen highlighted here. Way back in high-school econ we learned about specialization as it relates to jobs: that is to say that as technology continues to improve, the highest paying jobs that work with these new technologies require increasing levels of expertise, or specialization. Back then, I extrapolated and saw a huge issue. Now with AI, the issue is plainly obvious. Let's just take the internet and computers as an example of a technology that's been introduced that has required us to further specialize our knowledge. Highest paying job: quant trader/programmer High: engineer Medium: cybersecurity Low: IT All of these jobs pay pretty well, and all require increasing levels of education and training with computers and writing code. It's not surprising then, that there are simply way more IT personnel than…

I was fired from my toxic job this morning.

I had intended to quit next Wednesday without notice and start my new job on Thursday, so it was fine that I used my sick days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I informed my boss via text and provided a doctor's note. However, when I arrived at work today and clocked in, my boss called me into HR and fired me immediately. They offered me two weeks of severance pay, which I found confusing because I thought severance pay was typically offered to laid-off employees. Perhaps the company was concerned about potential wrongful termination accusations due to firing an employee right after sick leave with a doctor's note. I have a new job starting on Thursday, so I'm wondering if I'm still eligible for the severance pay while working there. Additionally, I'm concerned about how this situation may impact my future employment prospects. Would it have been better if I…
