I'd never heard the term “calling out” for calling off work until I started reading this sub. Is it a regionalism for a certain part of the US? For me “calling out” means to speak out loud to somebody or to challenge somebody.

Sure, let me just count time with my 9 fingers and I'll figure out when I can be there. I didn't say that but wanted to. Then he asked for me to send him a picture of the cut off finger. I told him it was all bandaged up and he said just remove the bandage and take a quick snap. I told him I would get a note excusing me for the week. When I got back he put me to task scrubbing the bleachers by hand. Lucky for me I'm a righty
“People should do more than what is asked of them at work.” Most like me Yikes.
Is it about no one in society working? Or is it about something else? Because human beings are designed to exert ourselves to some degree and to contribute to others to some degree. What would the alternative even be? I mean AI and robots wouldn't be sustainable, and it doesn't seem likely to me that so many people would be part of the subreddit based on that.
Hey folks, I'm in a tough spot at work and I could really use your thoughts. I'm a student studying automation and I've been working at this automation supplier for about four months. Honestly, the company's culture sucks, but I just don’t know if I could necessarily find another job off the bat for entry level stuff in my field. Even if I’m basically doing horizontal work, working production at a supplier rather than doing what I want to do (machine maintenance), the actual job description and company name sound good to applicant tracking software, even if I’m genuinely not doing much of anything I’d be doing otherwise, and working with very company specific parts. Beyond just that, what are some jobs that could at least put me in that general direction? Here's the deal: we've been doing overtime every other week for a few months, and now they want…
See, policy at my work is that if you miss MORE than one day, a doctors note is required. But my asshole boss loves to tell us we need a doctors note for even one day. You got it, boss man. See…. that one day I was gonna rest and come back the next day? Nope. Not now! My doctor said 3 days, so I’m gonna take 3 days. Had you not asked for a note, you’d have me back the next day. But because you were so pissed I missed one day, now I’ll miss 3 🙂 malicious compliance. And my doctor? She’ll give me three days for a sniffle. Love that woman. Lol.

i end every shift in tears
im a support worker for adults with learning disabilities, in a supported living home, in the UK. i was working a 48 hour week, shifts were 8am-8pm. they asked me to go onto nights for minimum 2 weeks to help settle a new client in. two months ago. this client is high needs, no way is a supported living the right kind of facility for him. he is 6'2, i am 5'2. i work alone with this man at night. he is violent. i have been punched in the face, kicked, shoved, screamed at, pinched, barged, elbowed, stuff thrown at me. when day staff come in i quite literally burst into tears out of relief that i can go home. every time i message my directora about getting back on day shifts, he says they're doing all they can to find staff to replace me at night. ive been asking…
So I just remembered this one. Few years ago I moved to the opposite side of my country. I got a job at a restaurant/hotel/musical venue, but since the location is in the butthole of nowhere not much was happening. EXCEPT, the month after I started work, there is a huge music festival going on.. and guess which venue is the star?!! That’s right! So I was normally working 5 days on, 3 days off. It was pretty sweet. So, I get asked to work during festival. Absolutely no problem!! But the festival falls on my 3 day off time. Ok, no problem. I can rest when I’m dead as long as I get overtime and some time off afterwards. Festival comes around, it’s absolutely mental!! Understaffed and underprepared, we smash the weekend with our amazingness! First day: 14 hours, second day: 12 hours and third day 10 hours. All…
