After 23 years I handed my 2 weeks notice in on a job I’ve given my all to without much recognition. I will miss many of my customers and know they will miss me. Today I had an email from HR asking if they could do anything about my shifts or can they discuss my leaving. They can’t and they can but it won’t do no good. Thinking I may ignore the email

Three weeks of furlough just announced.
I’m contracted to work for a large IT company, my department in particular and the company overall has a large number of contractors. They just announced all contractors will be furloughed three weeks of the year. The week of Fourth of July, the week of thanksgiving and the week of Christmas to new years. My contracting company already doesn’t pay holidays and I accumulate a max of 5 days of pto a year. Three additional weeks of unpaid time??? Never mind if I have any other planned time off already. Do I have any recourse here? It’s there unemployment I can file for on these weeks? THREE FREAKING WEEKS. That’s not a small paycut. And an hourly pay that’s already below my value. Ugh.
There are currently 50+ people on strike. This facility is entirely government funded through grants and the like…MILLIONS of dollars for experiments and operating costs. The pay for the lowest paid cleaner positions is dismal…41k a year…there is no public transit to this facility located 2km underground in a fully operational nickle mine. So I made a doodle in support of our under appreciated brothers and sisters.
Note: This is not in the U.S. Saw a notice at this hardware store yesterday. There was this printer paper taped behind the cashiers that stated: Full uniform is now mandatory. There is 6 different outfits, one for Mon – Sat. Also different outfits for summer and winter. Making it 12 different mandatory uniforms. All workers have to pay the outfits themself. Workers can order the uniforms, this will be added to their staff account and deducted from the salary and the end of the month. Anyone not in uniform will get a write up. Then added a list of the uniforms and their prices. Shirts were going for $14, at most a shirt at a normal will go for $4. Jackets for winter is $47, at a normal store $21. Pants are $20, at a normal store $11. They are asking theit employees to pay for clothes double the…
Best Day of My Life
Just received news from my boss that starting Monday my job is going to be completely WFH . Apparently the state building I work at did some maintenance on the elevators and decided that all 50 elevators are not up to code or whatever (idrc about the technical side of it) and the whole building gonna be shut down until Jan/2025!!! And that’s a government deadline so you know that they’re only gonna be ready in Jun/2025 at the earliest. I’m so happyyyyyy! No more taking the bus!!!
Had my vacation approved back in January/February timeframe, so I bought tickets and booked hotel. (Spent close to 3k for tickets and hotel, but really, that's irrelevant for the story, as it's the principle here). I had scheduled two extra days on either side of my trip to give me time to pack and recover, and to burn up some vacation time because I kept running up to the limit. I checked in on my computer the first day of vacation to find my manager scheduled a meeting for me that day. Umm no I'm on vacation. Checked in the next day to find an email saying “since you didn't show up to the meeting, I'm cancelling your vacation,” and she did, in fact, retroactively cancel my time off. So I replied to the email basically saying, “this was pre-approved and I'm not accessible during this time, bye.” And of…

So I took a job for someone who I grew up next too we went to the same church. Growing up as well. It was a pilot truck driving position 16 and hour. I thought that’s cool I know this guy sweet. My first day. He has me drive 2 hours away. Work for 5 hours drive two hours back. Second day has me drive 2 hours work 10 and drive 2 hours back. I learned in the second day that even though we are in a company truck he’s not paying drive time! So I worked 15 hours but was actually gone 23 hours. I was mind blown. And he put me “on call” for 4 days Here’s my first check as well. 60 dollars for training expenses? I wasn’t even trained. Needless to say I just quit. I can be pushed around a little but That tiny 60…
