TLDR; Claimed that because he was firing us, we could no longer recieve direct deposit and would have to give us physical checks. Ghosted. I work for a small business as a Summer job. About 10 employees. He informed us that he wasn't happy with our work and that he was letting us go. Friday comes along and no paycheck in bank account. He cancelled our direct deposit. So he asks us if we could work Saturday, and if we showed up for one more day we would get our paychecks. Worked an entire day. Boss left and said he would be back later with our paychecks. Never came back. Won't answer phone calls. He owed me 96 hours and 18 hours of overtime. I'm a W2 employee. Not sure what to do.

I got fired for having surgery.
Last Thursday, I found out that I was going to have surgery Wednesdayof this week. As soon as I got the call from the MD, I notified my boss and HR. Since I hadn't worked at this job yet for a full year, I wasn't eligible for FMLA and I was told that I needed to have my MD fill out paperwork for ADA leave. I took the paperwork to the surgeon's office on Friday, and I had it back Monday morning when I turned it back in to HR. I was never told that the leave had to be approved, I guess that's where I was naive. I assumed that the paperwork was just the way I needed to prove I was actually having surgery. Late Tuesday evening I was sent an email stating my leave wasn't approved because my employer wouldn't be able to make reasonable accommodation and…
Another failing upwards supervisor
A supervisor was just transferred into the department I work in. In his previous position, the rules he enacted spiked employee turnover rate to 70%. Now if you call in more than 5 times in a calendar year, all PTO, bereavement, LoA requests will be denied. P.S. the fact his uncle is the head of HR had absolutely no bearing on him getting promoted. /s
The end of remote work
So a series of large corporations are calling for employees to come back to work at offices, theres an increase in Cost of living and the economy Is dealing with inflation. What does all this mean for remote work in the coming years, is it: 1. we are heading to full offices with barely any remote workers. 2. Hybrid work is about to become the norm. 3.loads of people are imminently going to quit and eventually employees will somehow end up in situation 1.
As the title said my work refused to inform anyone working about this and I only found out about it three days after it happened. The employee was arrested; however, bullets were still being found after the fact. The higher ups claim that this was simply a “shoplifting” incident and that everything is alright, which is a lie considering there’s no way this person would’ve left a place with stolen bullets came to work proceeded to hide bullets around then get caught. I should also add that our work does not sell bullets and we also don’t have a loss prevention in place, that only adds more evidence towards them lying. When I confronted a higher up on this they just awkwardly tried to leave the conversation and kept saying how they “Had someone waiting for them”. Overall, I’m extremely upset that they 1. never informed anyone about this and…
Walmart stuck it to the deaf Grammy
TLDR: deaf Grammy, 20 yr employee is setup for failure so they can fire her My wife’s mom has been deaf her whole adult life since a fever took her hearing when she was young. She tries to wear ears but they’ve never been something she could fully get into or figure out because, she’s pretty uneducated and not very tech savvy. Anyways about 5 years ago she was fired and here’s how it happened and good olé WM knew exactly what they were doing. Grammy worked for about 15 years on fabrics. She knew everything there was to know about needles and glue and crafts and fabrics which sounds honestly awful but that’s where she found herself when she finally got over her fears and struck out to get a job after a divorce and depression. So if you were in need of some floral garbage to accent your…
It’s the failure of the American people to stand up and force change for a better world we all deserve. It saddens me to think this, but I honestly think we’re going to let these greedy corporations and corrupt politician take everything from us and more and never do anything about it. The fact that we’re not doing anything about it now is a telling sign that we probably won’t later on. I have no idea what more people need in order to make change happen.
I work for a fully remote global company. Prior to 2020, we had an annual meetup where they flew all of our employees in to a single location to basically have a conference for a week and get some face time. Last week we had our first one since the start of COVID. The only COVID-related requirement was the everyone signed a form 48 hours prior to the start of the conference that they had taken a COVID test and it was negative. No picture of the test or anything. Well here we are a week later and I’ve tested positive for COVID the day after I got home. I had it once before and I feel terrible – I’ve been extremely tired and achy the last few days, which I had chalked up to having 12-hour days last week between conference stuff and socializing. I’m in the US and…
I took some photos of the beautiful cherry blossoms in the street where my office is located and shared them in the company chat. To my surprise, my boss just took the photos and share them in their personal IG account as if they were its own, then reposted them from the company account. Is honestly not that big of a deal but it pisses me off that they couldn’t even ask for permission or mention who took the photos, just to be polite. Just to clarify I’m not a photographer and I don’t get paid to do that, did it on my own time and because I enjoy taking photos. I’m angry and feel stupid, never sharing anything nice with those assholes.
