To elaborate on what happened. I work as a bartender and I only just started working (for almost 2 weeks now) and right from the get-go I could tell my manager wasn't friendly. She would seem passive-aggressive whenever I ask her question or would put me in new roles that wouldn't be under my job description (had to talk up about that before they stopped) and couldn't even say good morning or how are you, simply things any normal person would do. There would be times I would be seeing her but we wouldn't talk all shift. The only time she would talk to me was when she was critiquing me on my mistakes (I was still learning the ropes of the job so I took all her critiques and made sure I don't make the same mistake twice). The majority of the time I would be behind the bar…

[Wisecrack] How work controls you
I started this job at the beginning of the year with a one year full time temp contract. The company offers unlimited time off (within reason) for “regularly, full time employees” so I was thrilled to join a company that offers such great work life balance. No mention of paid vacation in the notices sent by HR during the hiring process. I figure it's just an oversight and since it's unlimited, they don't need to explicitly state it. After being hired, I attend the welcome HR presentation with other new employees, where the company is boasted as a great place to work with unlimited vacation, and we should take advantage of it. Great! After a few months, I have a doctor's appointment during the day so I speak to my manager about using my vacation to take the day off. Nope, I'm a temp. The time off policy doesn't apply.…
So the story basically goes like this, I was working for my former boss using a new technology that I thought would be really helpful in our line of work. He loved that I was basically doing all this extra stuff for the same rate he hired me for. Eventually, I realized that I could just sell this service to other people so I started my own business. I gave him FIVE weeks advanced notice to find my replacement and he wanted me to even train them which I never got when I was hired. My former coworker was acting like we were friends up until my final week. The secretary in the office and I still keep in touch so she tells me all the stuff that the other girl says about me now that I am no longer there. She told me about how one day the evil…

A friend of mine just launched a website ridiculing automated layoff letters. https://allapologies.cc
Basically the title. We are a team of 10 in Payroll, all of us have the same team lead. She is great, very respetful, actual expert in the field. I have no problem following her lead and she never micromanages either, she trusts us to do our own work and I never had her reminding me of things or watching over my work. I do my job very systematically and diligently, when there is a fuck-up it's hardly ever my mistake. My team lead has said to me before that she appreciates that I do my job diligently and try hard to understand the processes in order to automate them, so it's not like I am a problemat worker who needs help. Howeve I have this one coworker, she is in the company one year more than me and does a different part of payroll to me. I don't know…
