Companies pat themselves on the back because they offer what SHOULD be the minimum wage. Meanwhile, $15 an hour would have been a livable wage in 2010. Now we need around $22-$25 per hour. These idiots want to be “economists”? Then adjust minimum wage with the rate of inflation. Otherwise the concept of a minimum wage actually hurts workers instead of assuring them a baseline in their wages. By setting the bar so low, they blind us to the real fact. That anyone making any amount of money under $20 an hour is being underpaid, regardless of legality

My company just sent out an email outlining that the entire continent had merit increases “paused” for 3 months with no chance of back pay and no guarantee merit increases are coming at all. In such an insane inflation year this is basically a huge pay cut. Not to mention that layoffs of loyal long term employees is leaving more work for fewer people to handle. What’s the point of the extra work if I am making less than I was with more help?!
standing my ground
trying to not feel bad about telling a manager no! I got Covid this past Monday and while I’m already feeling better it prevented me from getting a lot of school work done when I graduate college in three weeks now my manager texted me this morning if “I could work tomorrow we could really use the help!” But I will be saying no to it because I give a whole lot more of a shit about my education and wellbeing than a job that I already will be leaving in less than two weeks AND I haven’t even tested yet so idk if I’m even negative yet

We've all worked for a company that included “ping pong table and snacks” under the benefits sections in their job posting. I'm not a business owner so I'm not sure why they refuse to offer half-decent health benefits, but is it really ALL about the extra budget? I feel like offering extensive benefits would be an incredible investment because then you'd be bringing in top talent. Anyway, I read this article and it made me stop and think for a moment because I feel like it touched on some good points regarding benefits plans: https://brightmatterhr.com/knowledge-centre/blogs/do-your-benefit-plans-lineup-with-what-your-employees-want/

The goal is to become a big platform like Glassdoor but for rating landlords,, This can be huge and make renting safer and more transparent for everyone who doesn't have a house. And break up the monopoly that we are seeing being created in investment portfolios that prioritize taking up homes for profit
Hello, I live in the state of maryland. I was let go Tuesday of this week and expected my check to be around 3000 dollars as my regular check was usually 1900 plus my stipend about 2100. This quarter when I’d been let go I’d been given my commission, pto and salary… although my salary only covered two days of work. I reached out to my old manager and HR to fix this. They say that the figures are correct, it couldn’t possibly be true could it? Salary means a fixed rate no matter the hours worked right? I don’t know what to do…. The company is a smaller company that relies on translation and let us go due to not being able to afford us. They are from the U.K. but tried an american team, however they fired the only employee who brought them the most money 2 weeks…
