Denied PTO for NOVEMBER
I put in a request to take one single day off in early November of this year (six months away…) so I can go to a concert with my fiance. It was promptly denied because two entire months (November and December) are 'blackout' and NO ONE is granted time off. I work in retail full time, I get it, but its not like I'm trying to take a week long vacation in mid December! It's literally ONE day in the first week of November. Ridiculous. I guess I'll be calling in 'sick' that day. 🤷‍️ Fuck the idea that work is more important than the entire rest of the human experience.
So, I started interviewing because I wanted a raise from my current job. It ended up that I found a remote job in a different timezone. My current job has a very small workload to be honest, so I’m confident I can keep it with an ok performance working 2 hours a day. I don’t know how the new job is gonna be like yet tho. My problem is that I have daily meetings at 9:40am, and this meeting last about 20 min. The new company has a similar meeting, but it’s gonna be at 9:30 daily. I need ideas how I can manage this so I don’t have to resign from my current gig for now. Tia
Screwed over by new PTO policy.
So, my previous employer switched up their PTO policy at the beginning of the year. We were given notice of the change, but not the full details. The only information anyone had was 'please use your existing PTO before the new year because it wont roll over. We instead were given a pool on Jan 1st. I put in my two-weeks, but was practically begged to stay on until my replacement could be found, which ended up taking the better part of a month. (I really liked my team, so I said yes). When I turned in my badge to h.r., I confirmed that my PTO would be on my last check. I called yesterday to see if my last check was going to be physical or DD, and that everything was going to be on it, and was told “yes, and itll be DD”. Groovy. Got my check today…$1.57.…
How can I set boundaries with my boss?
My boss has proven herself to be manipulative, unkind, untrustworthy, and all around a bad person. My department is working on getting something to change, as this year things have gotten particularly toxic. Unfortunately, it’s a sticky situation (anyone who has worked in a private school knows how tricky the admin politics can be) and it will be a while before change is seen. For the moment, as I am the person who works most closely with her (lucky me), I need to set boundaries for my own health. She was aggressive and manipulative with me directly a few weeks ago, but her M.O. with everything is to pretend it’s all fine and dandy. How can I set boundaries with her without rocking the boat more than I need to? I do not want to joke with her or share personal details, but I also need to keep her sated…
My company is holding a paid company picnic today with games that everyone is expected to participate in. I already told my boss when he asked that I won’t be participating and have already been told “no problem” then today, the day of said picnic, the whole team has been told that we all have to participate. Anybody have any good excuses for me? Or really just words of encouragement?
Not Being Supportive Enough
Today, the dean of the school that I work at came up to me and told me I spend too much time on my phone and iPad. As a young person, I can understand that, I have a hard time staying focused and get on my phone, and when I’m in my cubicle, I have my iPad with me to listen to podcasts. So, I understand why she said something, but she went on to say that I’m not being supportive to her and the other office lady that works with me. She claimed that the other office lady, we’ll call her Karen, works over her hours because of this, and she’s not seeing any work on my end being done. Which is total bullshit as I do EVERYTHING this woman tells me to do, the exact way she tells me to do them. She gets on me all the…
New job responsibilities, no extra pay
I work in inside sales for a small company. We don’t have a marketing team and they know I hav e marketing experience and web design. I have expressed interest in possibly helping out with it. Now that they want to move forward they haven’t presented a new offer letter and I told them I wouldn’t do it without additional pay. They told me “ that’s not how it works, we want to see you do the job and the system put in place before being “rewarded”” Is this a trap?
This bullshit
Can’t even be bothered to have a live person conduct an interview?
