Fired for safety compliance

Employees expressed they didn’t feel safe getting on a roof after a winter storm. I got fired bc I refused to force them to do it anyway.

Why do so many job listings transfer you to their site to fill out an application?

How many people actually continue from that point? As soon as it transfers me I immediately refuse to apply for that job. All the info that is needed to at least decide if someone fits or not is in the resume. If you want an application filled out for whatever reason and I am supposed to spend 20-30min to fill it out then at least show some interest and have a quick call with me. Don't even get me started on these personality tests and whatever else they want. These can take well over an hour and they want those too before even talking to you.

Faking Resume/Lying About Work

Pretty much as the title suggests, but has anyone had any luck with faking their resume or lying about their work history? I've been out of work for a few years due to health reasons, but in the interim I went back to school and finished my degree. Despite putting out numerous applications, I've had no luck; I either get passed over or I don't get a call back which has been extremely discouraging. I'm at the point where I'm thinking about listing my old job as my current job which would buy me a few years of reliability on paper, but I'm not sure if there's any real risk of a potential employer finding out I'm lying. I've even thought about making up a company and listing that. Any and all feedback is appreciated. I want to work, but the hoops that need to be jumped through make it…

Looking for a part time job and have two job offers from two desperate businesses. How do I haggle my way into the best outcome?

I havent been employed for a few years due to college + the pandemic. I recently applied to a few places and I got two job offers. One job is offering minimum wage while the other is offering 15 cents more. Both jobs are in desperate need (cashier/closers). Neither job really offers any benefits. Same hours of about 20 hours a week is being offered. How should I go about counter offering? Should I bring up to the other job that I have a better offer for 15c more? Any advice is welcome as I am new to this and I dont want to be taken advantage of as an employee.

Samsung & other companies expect commission-only independent contractors to provide customer support for free

https://www.theverge.com/2022/4/14/23001790/samsung-online-sales-labor-customer-service-contractors-ibbu “Samsung’s experts are commission-only, with no hourly rate. So if they don’t sell anything, they don’t get paid. Originally, the money was good, but a once-promising work-from-home job has deteriorated into a confusing mess of misdirected customers and inconsistent directions from superiors, Larson and her co-workers say.” Tell ibbu / iAdvise (same company) how you feel: https://www.iadvize.com/en/contact/

Employer will not hire help after co-owner’s wife quit

I have been working for a small business for about 4 years. They are effectively a staffing company that provides workers for Federal Contracts. I started as a 1099 contractor providing IT support. They had zero IT infrastructure and I networked everything, created backups with redundancies, encrypted their files, and designed and launched a new website. Their old website was really awful. It reminded me of GeoCities. The business is run by the 2 co-owners, the wife of one of the co-owners, a single recruiter, and myself. Let's call the co-owner without the wife Jeff, the co-owner with the wife Bill, and Bill's wife Julie. I work mostly with Jeff, because Bill is actually working on one of our client contracts at a Federal site. After about a year, the Jeff and Bill reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in supporting the business with non-IT…

What’s worse, working in food or working in retail?

I’ve done both, and while I did not like retail (only worked one job in retail), my experience working in food was worse. Would never do either again unless I absolutely had to. With food, only at one of the 4 food places that I worked at was the training actually good, and it was a yogurt/boba place. Most food places just seem to forgo training altogether, and tell you stuff as you go along. Can’t tell you how many times people would ask me to do or make things that I was never taught. It made for a lot of issues that were not my fault. Another issue I had at every food place was scheduling. I’d usually have my availability with 5-6 days almost completely open, and would only get scheduled for like 1-3 days a week (the boba job was the only place that scheduled me more).…
