There’s no reason HR assistant jobs asking for a degree and experience should be paying 16-20 an hour, when retail and customer service and security guard jobs pay in that range, and often pay a little higher.

I've worked in HR for a few years in lower level roles, that usually require a BS degree and some office/clerical experience, usually they prefer HR experience. A lot of HR jobs in my area pay 17-18 an hour, but want you to have a degree. For context, in n out starts at 19 an hour in my area. A person can be a college grad with a white collar job and have to live with parents or roommates out here. It's insane.

I’m unabashedly lazy.

A lot of people in Gen Z/milennials are desperately trying to push back against the notion that we are lazy. To some people work brings them purpose, but I don't think it ever will for me. I graduated college last year with fairly good marks with a non-STEM, liberal arts degree. The only jobs I've ever worked are retail or service. They're not great, but I plan on working another one in part because of how fucked the job market is. Many people my age are going balls to the wall for an internship or corporate/office position where they'll still be fundamentally unsatisfied. And guess what? I'm too lazy to apply myself for that and make 600 applications and “network”. My life is too short to just try and sell myself. There's nothing wrong with being “lazy” (ie, not wanting to work past the bare minimum) and just wanting to…

Question about Wages & Time

I am an hourly employee at $16/hr in Chicago, Illinois. I only get paid once a month and I haven't been paid for March yet and I was wondering how long I'm supposed to wait? This is my first job, so I don't know what's normal or what rights I have. Last month I was paid on the 10th for February. I checked my pay period and my boss doesn't even have one listed so I don't know what to go off of.

Had to call out today and manager’s callousness hurt my feelings

Today my car started dying while I was driving, I could barely pull it over into a nearby parking lot. I had to have it towed into a shop. This happened at 10AM and I was scheduled in at 3PM. By 12PM the shop hadn’t even been able to look at my car yet so I knew there was no way I was going to be able to make it into work in a reasonable amount of time. I called my job to say I can’t make it in and stated the reason and my manager said “you can Uber or find a ride. You’re not sick you’re just having car trouble. Car trouble is not a reason not to come into work.” I was startled at the callousness of his response. By all accounts I’m a good employee. I work hard, I’ve covered for others, and in my 1.5…
