Ok, now we just need someone with more influence than me to say it. This is my fantasy. SOme event gets national attention on a slow news day and someone with a big following says “fuck it, don't come to work”. And in my fantasy it sweeps social media. And Fox news is calling everyone a communist. Dow futures fall 800 points but by 10:am the Dow actually falls 1000 points. An emergency session of congress results in a screaming match. The impact emboldens everyone who was on the fence. Tuesday even more people stay home. Large employers start promising big raises but social media pressures everyone to hold fast. Strikes start to launch in other developed countries. Congress gets together a second time and passes a national min wage of $20 indexed to CPI so it goes up automatically in the future.

Have you ever gotten a 5 on your review with your manager? Years ago I worked retail and it was clear that “no one ever got a 5” which is usually just defined as “goes above and beyond” in whatever category the topic was in. I guess it’s suppose to be a tactic to get you to drive for a higher goal, but in actuality it’s just shows me you don’t really manage well when you give me a 4 and I know I’m a 5.

If we all take one day off of work and refuse to buy anything on that same day. No gas, no take out, no groceries, nothing. If enough people participate, it’ll stop the economy for one day. This will get the attention of large corporations, raise a lot of awareness, and let politicians know that we’re ready to vote them out if they can’t help us get better wages, working conditions, and healthcare. June 16th seems like a good day. We can call it the New Labor Day
