Hey y’all, I’ve been working with a company roughly two years now. I was told at my first yearly review I couldn’t receive the normal raise but was given 1k as “good faith” It’s now been a year and a half and I’ve been told the company can’t afford to offer raises at the moment. But luckily for me, I’m being transitioned to the position I was looking at, I just need to wait on a raise. Problem is, I can’t. I just paid all my bills and I have 12 dollars left in my account. How the fuck can I angle for a raise because it’s crazy to me that we can’t afford raises, yet our customer facing employees are staying in $600/Night hotels and I’m literally deciding which bill to be late on this month. Like this isn’t even a tenure issue, but like a “hey the world…

Just wanted to share this story that this guy told me yesterday. I have been tutoring this young man diagnosed with ADHD since he was in his second year of Law Degree. His father was friends with my father and I'm a lawyer, so years ago they asked me to help him (well paid), because he was having difficulties. To my surprise, and everyone else's, he got his degree on the first try and now is about to pass the exam to enter the Bar Association. He is by no means stupid, but he has this clueless air and when you talk to him you can have a feeling that he is not following or understanding you. We have gone through some hard times (doc tried to stop his medication) but he is mostly ok now. The thing is, since he is about to become a lawyer, he is doing…
It’s pretty weird
In a future where the need for traditional labor is diminished due to advancements in AI and automation, we will have the unique opportunity to redefine our understanding of success and happiness. As our societies shift towards a more collaborative approach, how do we measure personal achievement and well-being beyond material wealth and job titles? Creativity and Innovation: Nurturing creative talents and developing innovative solutions to societal challenges, fostering a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Social Connections: Building strong relationships and engaging with diverse communities, promoting empathy, compassion, and understanding. Community Contribution:…

A battle of perspectives…
It seems to me we mostly base our value off the top earners. Mainly, “we’re incredibly undervalued.” This seems problematic to me because the goal to the profit margin will remain the same. Wages go up, profit margins go down, the price of goods go up to make up for the shrinking margin. Logically I think we should be asking ourselves, why do too earners think they’re so much more valuable? Our wages don’t need to go up to meet the cost of markets, investors and corporate officers need to back off their idea of what they should be getting in return. Allowing for the cost of goods and services to drop to meet our wages. Thoughts?
Thoughts on mandatory overtime?
Teenager w/ part time job; help!
I’m still in high school, and work retail part time. This Thursday I am on the schedule for 6.5 hours after school, which exceeds the maximum hours I explicitly stated on the form I filled out when I was first hired. Also, I have a test the next day I brought this up to my manager, who signed off on the form with my max hours, and told her I cannot work 7 hours on a school night, let alone any more than the hours I put on the form. She said that’s not their problem and to find someone to switch with if there’s an issue. She also said that I can work more than my maximum hours? I’m confused about this, and don’t even know how to approach it. As a student, no actually I can’t be expected to work more than that I don’t understand why they…
