Need advice for requested time off
Hello, this is my first time posting so please let me know if I do anything wrong. So I'm a waitress at a restaurant, and in our town we're one of three sit down restaurants in our small town, and we're also open every day of the year except Christmas. We're a chain restaurant and have a pretty good online system because of it, and on there I requested off Easter. I didn't even realize it was Easter until my friend told me, we just picked that day to go to an amusement park. Online it says approved, and I know they don't approve stuff willy-nilly because I've had time off rejected before (we have a Facebook group dedicated to trading and giving away shifts so I got it covered and didn't really care). However, a slightly higher up at work showed me a preview of the schedule next week…
Huge tax bill again
Ok just a rant, but I just found out we owe another 10k to feds for this tax year, again. I'm so over this! My spouse and I work hard for our $, but it's barely enough with a few medical bills etc. He's a family law attorney but does mainly court appointed, he also works 5 other jobs on councils for peanuts, just to help. He made less than 50k last year, I make more as an analyst but we finished putting last.1 thru college, so no more dependent s, we literally make under 120k combined and we pay out over $18k in just Federal taxes. Just so frustrated!
Some people say you absolutely need to leave one and others are saying it’s only for the employer and you don’t need to leave one.
This is why unions are so important
I figure this goes without saying but companies seem to focus on these tips: https://brightmatterhr.com/knowledge-centre/blogs/this-is-why-your-hiring-process-is-turning-candidates-away/ More than they focus on the quick fix of telling people how much they're paying for a job right off the bat. It blows my mind that this isn't commonplace yet.
Especially if it was anonymous. “Dear Management, you don’t know who this is, or how many of us there will be, but consider [day and date] to be my last day because [reasons they are incompetent, selfish, money-grubbing tyrants].” And then on that day, you’re gone. Don’t answer phone calls, emails, texts, nothing. You gave them notice….kinda. It’s like submitting your two weeks without having to worry about retaliation or listen to them bitch about it, and hell, you might inspire more people to quit on the same day. Can you imagine if management came in and more than half the team quit? *obviously there are tons of reasons this would be impractical and why it would harm you as an employee/former employee. (PTO banks, future references, etc). That risk comes with leaving any job so take all this with a grain of salt but if you’ve reached your limit…
