My street in France. I ain’t even mad.
How to recover from a damaging comment
To preface, I have an incredible job. I am going to keep the title and responsibilities vague, but I get to make peoples lives better and processes more practical. Recently I was included in a long time project to build a client facing application; although I am not actively doing it in my role now, I have previously worked in application development, devops, quality control for applications, automated testing, etc. I have been vocal about my concerns in how the project is being implemented, tested, documented, and delegated; these are all normal parts of making sure something is quality. I was told yesterday, in an email to my peers and a senior vp, that I am a “detractor” and seem like I actively making roadblocks to stop this project. I was floored. I have spent my tenure building better processes, making better client facing initiatives, building morale and stretching myself…
Welcome to the dystopia, an employee for Intuit is all over Linkedin as a promoted post and the employees profile is open to work because they only get work part of the year. It’s a lot of very clear sucking up for a part time job. Read her blog to figure out why she loves it so much even though she needs to find a second job to support her family.
Taking Pride In What I (Don’t) Do
For more than 20 years I was the hardest working person I know. I actually got a lot of satisfaction from work, from working harder than my peers, from the kudos that came from hard work and commitment to my work and working miracles on behalf of my company. I took a lot of pride too that I was able to be the primary caretaker for my kids despite my hard work. I would often start working from home at 5:30 am until they'd get up at 7:00am, spend an hour getting them breakfast and off to school, work my butt off till 4pm, then log in again and work till 11 or midnight after the kids were in bed. But this all changed a few years ago, when in relatively short order my kids reached their 20s, I was wrongfully terminated so my boss could keep a sizable bonus…
They changed the agreed upon evaluation parameters and are refusing to be transparent about it as well. They are also taking many carriers day off away. Many of your carriers are taking huge pay cuts and being forced to work MORE. This is after these same people worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic on increased volume with no hazard pay.
America doesn't want people to have work life balances, mandating 0 paid time off, and mandating 0 parental leave. There are people who defend this, saying all the other countries are “lazy, poor socialists” without ever considering the idea that they're just overworked and fell in love with being exploited. How someone can defend mandating 0 paid time off and parental leave is beyond my belief. People should be protesting this, especially when other countries such as Italy, the UK, Germany, Switzlerland, and etc. mandate that people get months worth of paternal/maternal leave, and at least 21 days of paid vacation. I have legit heard people say that America does working laws better than those countries, and that is top tier clown behavior.
