my friend pointed out that the reason a lot of managers suck is because in a lot of jobs going into management is the only way to progress their career.

I think she's got a point. I think certain people are great as managers and they have a personality that makes them suitable for that role. they love supporting people and are good at it. they may be natural leaders and/or teamworkers and have both the company's and their team's best interest at heart. but there are so many people who go into management purely because they want a payrise and going into management is the only way up, resulting in people being in charge of others' work life who have no empathy or care about supporting or helping others. they go into management for selfish reasons (money, career) rather than because they genuinely want to lead and support people in the best way, and it really shows in a lot of cases. not to say that those people suck in general – they are just not well suited or…

Why are so many people here delusional about work?

People here express outrage at poor management, bad wages, bad working conditions, meaningless jobs, lack of fulfilment, insufficient breaks or holidays, etc. They seem to be under the delusion this is not how things should be or that jobs like this indicate something is wrong. That's so delusional. It's like that everywhere. Good bosses are rare. Decent pay rarely exists except for a small minority. Most jobs are meaningless. Work is rarely fulfilling, unless you are very lucky or very dumb. Lack of decent holidays is universal at all levels in the USA, but at least not in Europe. The things people complain about are actually just the way it is. It's like being outraged by the fact it's raining. It's pointless to rage against the machine. You just have to learn to cope. And look for fulfilment in your personal life, not some corporate BS which wants your soul…

“May I know the reason for the request?”

https://i.imgur.com/wyURmBu.png I took a pre-employment medical examination at a panel clinic of my current company a few months ago. Recently, I wanted to check out the medical report to know more about my health since my last check up was 10 years ago. I was shocked when a reason was required as I assumed I would be entitled to my own personal data. Is this a common SOP? P.S. I am a local working in Malaysia.

Am I being left behind?

Hi everybody, I (33M) work at a company for a year and a half, in logistics, after working for 7 years in another big logistics company. A month ago I received an offer from a pharmaceutical company, to work in their logistics department. It was a great offer, with a high salary. I informed my current company, and they revised my salary to the same value so I could continue there since I am doing a great job (according to them). What happens is that I am feeling being left behind. I have another colleague (25F, let's name her Jessica)), that started there around 3 months after me. It's her first job, and they are really investing in her, although my manager already told me that she will probably leave in a year or less because she will probably wants to other stuff. Another colleague of ours, that is working…

How do I go into a 90-day evaluation for a job I despise without screaming at my boss?

I work housekeeping in probably the worst hospital in my state, and my 90-day evaluation is tomorrow. I am so fucking fed up with this job and the work environment here that I want nothing less than to go into the room where the evaluation is being held and berate him to the point where he has no choice but to either improve the work environment in some meaningful way or fire me. I'm sick of having to do the job of two or more people because literally every other position in this hospital seems bound and determined to make our jobs harder.
