My mother (early 60s) was just told that she's been laid off after 42 years of employment. My parents have been talking about moving out of state (CA to TN) for a few years and about a year ago, she asked her boss about making her job remote. She works in the office handling complaints and other things like that for a franchisee of a national chain. He told her that it would work, made her write up her job description to figure out if anything couldn't be remote, what could. They sold the house in November and are leaving the state next week. Last week, he told her that because of California AB 5, the lawyers have told him, she can't go remote for him as he has no physical location in the other state. Because it was only a verbal agreement, so I'm concerned there's no recourse. But…

Can people in salaried position in the US take unpaid time off for things like vacation? I'm not sure if Paid Time Off means just “company pays for this time off” or if it also means “you can't take off more than this”.
When I left the toxic company they failed to arrange a time to pick up my work IT equipment for return. Now 3 months later they keep ringing me expecting me to drop all my interviews and stay indoors all day until 5pm for the courier collection. I said they need to specify a time or at least specify the morning or evening but expecting me to stay indoors all day for them is surely irrational? They said they cannot specify morning or afternoon so they’ll flag this with the IT manager. What I’m annoyed about is they took 3 months to sort this out.
Like they don't see that asking people to come in an extra day every other week could be a game changer. There is no talk of productivity being down, my direct manager is talking a lot of shit about “Company Culture”, its a fucking nonsense. 50% was already too much, and now they want to INCREASE it.
I started a new job two months ago, and I immediately recognised that I had made a mistake joining the business. The senior manager was a serial handballer, micromanager, and a total control freak. She wasn’t present during the entire onboarding process. The other day, I caught up with her to inform them that the job wasn’t for me and I wasn't a proper fit for the company. After she asked for feedback I tore her a new one and she started balling her eyes out. What I said wasn’t even bad for a corporate role but it was probably the first guy who stood up to her and said it how it is. Since I’ve been there I saw how badly she treated our team including myself as well as others in the organisation. A real corporate snake POS manager. Unfortunately, I left a considerable amount of money on…
You cannot be serious
Currently job hunting and was invited for an interview position that I'm interested in. Only problem is the interview site is a few distance away which will require me to take a domestic flight + hotel fees for the night. Just looked it up and it'll be about $350 (not including miscellaneous like food). I was told that this is for only an interview and not a job offer so any expenses will not be reimbursed. Online/Remote interview is not an option sadly. I'm paycheck to paycheck so it will be a huge dent in my budget, especially if I get rejected. I'm having a hard time deciding whether it will be worth it. Should I give it a shot? How far would you be willing to travel (and pay) to get to an interview?
