I graduated with my Masters in Dec of 2019, landed my dream job then three months later was let go. Managed to get another one in my degree field and was let go four weeks in. Then my job world went on a hiring freeze (like many other firms in the middle of 2020) Until 9 months ago, I worked as a janitor at a concert venue at night and did remote customer service during the day due to my market being flooded with new applicants with newer degrees. By far these were the worst most humbling jobs I have ever worked and it gave me a whole new perspective on life. long story short my dept merged into another department. my immediate manager left a year and a half ago and ive been on a stipend bc ive been doing those tasks including my regular job bc no one else knew how to do any of my former supervisor's job. my department head is still relatively new and doesnt know how to do anything this new manager will be doing. my stipend has now ended and, although i interviewed for the manger position, i didnt get it. based on the announcement of the new hire the person coming on board doesnt have any experience doing the most of the tasks they have been hired to do. how do i tell my department head that i dont want to train someone who was hired over me to do the tasks i know but they have no experience with without burning any bridges?…
