Category: Antiwork
The company that runs the servers that were contracted by the company I work for had a fire at their facility yesterday, and their entire system went offline nationwide for more than 24 hours. Our entire shift had to be called off, no work can be done without the use of our computers. Instead of compensating us for the time lost that had nothing to do with us, they want us to use our earned PTO or vacation time to cover our wages. I'm not really sure if it's a legal problem, but I don't agree with the decision.
Pregnant partner and work
Hello all I’ve been away from work to care for my pregnant partner, for about 3 weeks. She has recently been shown as positive, and with it has caused both of us to overcome physical and mental issues. This has ultimately made me feel demotivated to work, as I have no sleep pattern and no routine revolves around d the well being of my partner. I am not sure if I am being too weak, but I’m just mentally exhausted. The work in itself is stressful and now with my partner pretty much relying on me for support has put me in a difficult position. How do I balance work and being supportive to my partner? I’m suffering from insomnia from the stress, she’s hallucinating at night and I am expected to still somehow wake up in the morning for work? I had a informal chat with my manager asking…
My retail company just implemented a policy where no employee can have on their personal vehicles; any decals or flags that depict affiliation with any political party, religious group, sexual orientation or identity, race—I think you see where I’m going. We’re not allowed to display anything that may be offensive to a particular groups while on any company parking lot (rented or owned, clocked in or not) This seems like a violation of personal freedoms, but it’s also a private corporation. Where does the line get drawn though? What can a corporation implement me to do on my OWN time? Are they going to dictate what items I can and can’t have in my car? What if I take my moms car to work is she subject to this policy? If I’m wrong please let me know
It’s okay though
I Apparently Owe $6,000 in Federal Taxes
I am a casual worker at a major hospital. I work every other weekend and nowhere else. My husband was filing our taxes and once he put my W-2 in we went from breaking even to owing $6,000. I rechecked my online W-4 to make sure I had it filled out right. I do. I even put I have no children even though I have one in hopes of not owing. I should’ve paid more attention to my paychecks and noticed not very much was coming out in federal taxes. I call payroll on Monday. They looked over my W-4, said everything looks correct, so they’ll escalate it to their manager to figure out the problem. They’ll call me back. They never do. Call back Wednesday and it’s a different lady. She immediately starts off with how they take out taxes based off how I filled out my W-4. I…
This is an upgrade in a game I play
I have a confession
So, I have a confession guys. I am in HR. But I'm not like a regular HR, I'm a cool HR. I recently took my proposal to our public oversight board for increasing wages for all employees to a minimum of $15 in rural Nevada. I am also changing policies that require a doctor's note after missing three days because that might mean the difference between someone getting medicine or food on their table and I trust most people will do the right thing. I'm trying to change the role HR has played to be more employee friendly, at least at our facility. Thankfully, I have administration who is supportive of that, while maintaining a firm but fair mindset.
