There was recently a post asking people to go on strike for 10 days. Realistically, that is impossible for a majority of people. So instead, how about we start small, by boycotting? What if we have a monthly vote for a company we boycott for two days in that month? For example, did Starbucks bust another union? Cool, let's let them know they will be boycotted for two days. It won't harm anyone who wants to participate, and if you get enough people on board, then you could cost the company a noticeable dip in profit for those days. Will it change the world? No, but it will at least flex our consumer power without having to go out of our way to do it. And the best part, you don't have to put yourself at risk for participating! Any thoughts on how to get this started? Maybe if it…

You make a contract to a person. This person will get paid 1 amount each month. Wait: You still don't have the money to pay him.. but, those money will be brought to you by the work of this person. This person generate 10 at the end of the month. You keep 9 and give 1 to this person. You find a way to pay any taxes with even legal practices, and this person instead even need to pay taxes on 1. You buy something without taxes, and this person buy something with taxes. Is this legal?

2023: A Coming Economic Crisis!
I recently got a new job. I was formerly subbing and just switched to teaching. I’ve taught before so I know what you need in order to make a classroom function. However, nothing is going my way. For starters I have 192 total students for middle school. I was lied to about what exactly I would be teaching and how many total subjects I would have. I don’t have a planning period so that has to be done at home. I still haven’t been given keys to my classroom because they are busy so I have to ask someone with a master key to open it and i have to wait to use the restroom as well. I don’t have access to technology because they are working on it. I can’t see my students in my digital roster yet so I’m having to do it on paper and they told…
I’m fairly new at my job, and I won’t give any details of where I work for anonymity sake. A lot of my coworkers take half days so they can attend appointments or doctors check ups, meaning their valuable holiday is being taken for something mandatory like this. The discussion also came up because a coworker worked through her lunch break so she could use her ‘break’ to have a scheduled call with her doctor. I think this is ridiculous, and there’s a theme of my employers making any absence from work be taken as holiday. They’ve even asked people to take their sick days as holiday which I’m pretty sure isn’t allowed. I just wanted to check if things like this are the norm? Is it allowed? Is it just up to the employer? I currently have 28 days holiday including bank holidays, though due to starting later in…
I work retail Monday through Friday every week, 7-5ish, depending on when we get done. They've now said we need to come in for a few hours on Sunday to prepare for the week every Sunday and stay later every day to prepare for the next day. I'm salaried so that would not result in any additional pay. My fiance works overnights so we only see each other an hour or so before her shift every night as it is. If I stay later it's likely to mean I'll go days without seeing her. Really just a boiling point today where they say I'm not able to leave 2 hours early on a day with no more customers coming in (we're appointment based) and the staff fully set up to complete the day with all the work done. Kind of ridiculous.
General Strike info
I've been hearing a lot about the idea of a general Strike over the past two days. A lot of it has just been on social media, and as we've seen recently that doesn't really lead to anything meaningful. I'm one person, so I don't have the time or energy to find all the resources necessary to make this work. Can y'all help me find contact information for various unions, both for how to join, and to talk about a worker strike? From there we can spread the message to everyone not in a union, but we should probably give this some time to plan.
Is this legal even?
My car was hit on the street a couple of days ago while I was working (I work from home) so right now I don’t have a vehicle. We have to go in office once per month for meetings and stuff and when I told my boss I wouldn’t be able to make it in this month because of the accident. This fucking guy asked me for photos and a copy of the police report and wants me to email them to the director and cc him on the email. I feel like this is a HUGE invasion of my privacy and to make such a request feels illegal. I don’t know if this is the correct sub for this but should I take this to HR?
The last time I worked for a for-profit entity was delivering pizzas for a local pizza joint when I was 19 (my boss was a dick btw and fired me when I said I wouldn't deliver pizzas on Christmas Eve because I was 19 and was going to my uncles house with my family.) Solid New Jersey pizza, though. I digress. Since then I have worked for 5 different not-for-profit organizations and while things are not perfect, I do not experience many of the things I see often discussed in this subreddit. I also want to preface this with “nonprofit” doesn't mean not profitable. An organization needs to be profitable in order to exist for more than a couple of years. Non-profit means there are no share holders and any profit from the organization goes back into the organization itself. The most challenging part of a non-profit career is earning…
