Of course this varies on a boss-to-boss basis, but one technique I had success with was responding to ridiculous demands with a silent stare that also says “I am having a violent fantasy in my brain about you right now” and my boss really started softening up after that. The thing is you don't even have to have the violent fantasy, you just have to convince your boss that you might want to murder them. This works especially well if you are large or menacing.

I just got fired today
So a little background, I’ve been looking around for a new job recently and begun the hiring process with a separate employer. This prospective employer requires you to do a physical as part of the hiring process. I had the physical scheduled for yesterday, problem was that I had to work. I spoke to my manager about it the day prior and told him I had a doctors appointment at 10 am. I said that I had to get some blood work done and I wasn’t looking forward to it since we were just chitchatting and he said it was cool if I came to work for a little bit, went to my appointment, then come back. He was under the impression apparently that I had ONLY just blood work to do from that conversation. I only brought up blood work because I wasn’t happy having to get blood drawn…
No Bonus After Hitting Revenue Goals
So I work at a large tech company in California and we recently let a few thousand people go via layoffs. We reported to share holders about our revised revenue goals that were lower than projections and proceeded to hit those goals. Shortly after we were told we would not receive our mid year bonus due to having lower revenue, even though the executives changed them. I officially hate corporate America and I fully support bare minimum mondays and every other day for that matter.
I recently noticed a lot of images of a service charge being added to checks at restaurants. As a server do receive this in addition to any tips, or does it just go in the company's pocket?
I already have a new job lined up. I’m just trying to come up a “professional” way to word my 2 weeks notice due to drama with coworkers. I just cannot handle the stress and unhappiness of this. It’s a daycare for Christ’s sake!!! I’m there to watch kids, not be buddy buddy with the staff who also make no effort to be courteous with me. Im also 10weeks pregnant so the stress is just not something I want to deal with. Does anyone have any ideas on how to nicely resign due to drama? Or should I just leave the drama part out and say it’s due to stress? Thanks for any input and sorry for my little rant above^
Have to pay to quit job?!
Just had an interview for an online part time teaching job. All was going great… then the recruiter says “we pay a flat rate of $75 for orientation- and if you decide to quit we need 3 weeks notice or there is a $500 quitting fee.” Excuse me?!? No the hell there is not! Should I add- this job pays 18 bucks an hour and no benefits. I have a masters of science in cognitive neuropsychology and would be teaching classes online. No thanks!
I’m having a not so serious surgery next month and I called to put in my leave of absence request with HR & they asked me what procedure I’m having done?? I said I don’t want to disclose that personal information. They said they would need to know later on and documentation from my doctor. Is this legal?? Wouldn’t a doctors note saying I am going under surgery and need X amount of days off be fine? (I’m in CA)
Why do jobs ask this!!!!
Why do jobs ask what you’ve been doing since your last job?! I can understand if it was a huge gap, but 4 months ago I was laid off and what have I been doing?? APPLYING TO JOBS DUMBASSES!! When I tell them this, they almost seem disappointed? As if my answer should have been saving the world, inventing cure to cancer. Like wtf… what is the point in asking this?!!! It grinds my nerves so bad.
