Help me feel better about calling in to work today…

My kid has been sick so many times in the past couple years. This is the third time she’s been sick in 2023. All different illnesses. Anyway, I have a deadline at work tomorrow and I’m salaried, but my kid has a 102 fever and a horrid cough. I need to call in yet again but I’m feeling so anxious over it. I’m on a small team of 5, and I’m the only one with kids. I’ve gotten some grief for it in the past and just need some words of encouragement 🫠

Unpaid dependency

(UK) Currently off work due to having a baby in special care neonatal unit. Spoke to work about having paid dependency due to what's happening said they would discuss it. Just got my months payslip and have been paid just over £200. After spending every day splitting our time at the hospital and taking care of our other kids for the last 6 weeks, nearly losing our baby a few times, blood transfusions, surgery, struggling with oxygen, feeds…. This payslip really was the cherry on top.

Revealing public sector salaries over 100K serves what purpose?

In Canada, if you make 100K per year they release that information for everyone to view if they want. I suppose the answer to my question is because they want tax payers to know what public servants are getting paid. Is this a common practice in other countries? I mean, 100K and over in 2023 is not as high as people think. Maybe in 1990 that would be considered a high salary. Right now I’d say $150K and higher I would consider a way above average salary. In the public sector it’s often brought up at work. You could be doing a great job but if there is someone making less and think they should make more, it’s not out of the ordinary for someone to say out in the open in front of EVERYONE: “Bill made 106K last year and I think I’m underpaid!” Leads to a toxic work…

“why are you out of the lab? A bit early for a break isn’t it?”

I’m just so stunned right now. I’m an intern making £3.50 an hour, getting experience in a laboratory environment. In the lab 8 hours a day. We can’t bring water in here so we often go to the kitchen to take a quick drink before being back in the lab. Today the office manager (not my direct manager mind, he’s great) saw me leave the lab at 10:30 after being in there since 8 and asked, “why are you out of the lab? A bit early for a break isn’t it?” Like. I need a drink? I’ve been working over a flame all day it’s decently warm in there and I’ve not stopped until now. She got huffy and walked back up to her office with a GLASS OF WATER she just got from the same kitchen I was entering. I’m not even making minimum wage, this experience will be…

Need help with lower pay

Just had a meeting with my company, and they have announced that they’re changing our nightshift (9pm-5am) to day shift (4am-12:30) and also lowering our pay from $24 to $20. What are my options and how do I go about being laid off? I don’t want to quit but I also do not see myself agreeing to these new terms. The changes start on Monday and I would like to know how should I go about this? Any help/advice would be much appreciated. I live in nyc btw if that helps at all
