Legal or illegal to record audio & video at work?

State of Idaho. I found a ambiguous federal law stating you couldn’t record audio without consent, but I am wondering if there is anything at the state level that would circumvent this. I work at specialty retail store and have worked there for 10 years. The owner has always lacked a moral compass. His decisions are purely motivated by money. I am the manager of some high school kids so they definitely aren’t the hardest working people but I feel like as long as they are 50% efficient that’s appropriate to their age. The owners are stuck in 1950 and feel like I’m paying you money you should be working every single second of the work day!

How to make it through a shift at work while waiting to find a new job?

I made a post last night about a situation that occured at my job and I'm currently looking for a new one. I now have two interviews lined up for next week. In the meantime, the woman I work for (I take care of her disabled adult son) has been staying home almost every night (she used to go out to dance classes) and I'm being watched while I work. It makes the situation insanely uncomfortable for me. To make matters worse, he acts out (not sure how else to word that) when she's home. Badly. He has full on meltdowns that do not occur when it's him and I working one on one. I'm just a random internet stranger so you all have no way to know the situation. I could just be awful at my job and need to be watched. However, I don't believe that to be…

Temp Agency Abuse, people cycled unknowingly through “ghost” temp agencies

https://www.thestar.com/opinion/letters_to_the_editors/2023/02/24/are-ghost-temp-agencies-the-future-of-work.html A web of temp agencies. Millions in tax refunds, Feb. 18 So, this is the real reason behind the growth of temporary work permits in Canada. These people get cycled unknowingly through multiple “ghost” temp agencies by companies that claim them for “input tax credits.” They are treated as material inputs, no different from bags of flour fed into an industrial bread maker. The federal government should never have permitted such a parasitic obtuse Byzantine program to flourish through tax credits, despite the obvious potential for abuse. What’s next? Will businesses lock workers inside to work long shifts, as has been done at other factories, where fires have killed trapped workers? When the federal government talks about job transitioning for the future, is this what the future looks like?

help me think of an answer to a hypothethical argument lol

I work for a company with an online shop. Now while shopping on our website I found a loophole on their system that ,let's just say, would let a customer save alot of money. Of course this is unintentional. Now I took advantage of this multiple times to get some good stuff for myself. Now the company found out about this stuff and it's discovery traces back to me, for some reason. Now… if I come to work and they start asking me questions like “if you found out why didn't you report it earlier?” What's the best neutral way to answer that question?

My work place is legit cursed!

Welp this year marks my 7th year with this company. I have only work for this company and I'm turning 25 years old in August. I work in a parks department for a giant city, when I first started out I worked in a recreational complex for softball/baseball & football. I did all the groundskeeping with my superior. This continued on till I was hired as a full time maintenance worker in 2018 at a different sports complex. My boss from 2018-2019 (jon doe) was a complete dick. I did all of the shit work he didn't want to do. He eventually quit and went back to school. End of 2019- early 2020 i took care of this place by myself. It was very rewarding but all of the older gentlemen told me to be careful and not get stuck there. They told me a story about the previous caretaker…

Unpaid Lunches on Overtime Shifts

My company just started a new policy where there will be a mandatory 1/2 hour unpaid lunch on weekend overtime shifts, if you work more than 6 hours. I live in CT and the state laws say any hours over 40 per week must be paid in overtime pay, and a lunch is only required if you work more than 7.5 hours. Shouldn't they then by law not be allowed to force an unpaid lunch if you only work 6.5 or 7 hours overtime? Also, I work an overnight shift where you work 6.5 hours and get paid for 8, as a bonus for working the overnights. Would you think the state law would look at the 6.5 hours actually worked, or the 8 hours compensated for when taking into account the requirement of a lunch after 7.5 hours?

Made an unemployment booboo

So I recently got essentially laid off and I qualify for unemployment payments while I look for another job. While filling out claim, I mention I was only looking for work on 3rd shift. Apparently in my state of Maine it is law that I have to be seeking work for any shift. Unaware of this at my time of completing the claim. I get a call and they basically called to tell me that my my claim denied and yes I could appeal. Question for yous people is this: if I resubmitted my claim with the open availability could there be legal precedent to look into if I am lying, which I wouldn’t be. Or should I just appeal and say that I have open availability now? Thanks for the advice

Company refusing to provide an offer letter?

Been working for a chemical company for 2 years now in the lab. I’m the only person in the lab with a degree and experience and I was told when I got hired I would be promoted within a year or so because someone else was retiring. Of course they didn’t retire and I’ve been just stuck in an entry level position ever since. In December my lab manager moved to a different company and he had let me know and started training me to take over for him when he left. But the higher ups didn’t want to make me manager so that opportunity disappeared as well. I recently interviewed at another lab that is now offering me a $3.50 per hour raise but again it’s an entry level position and the drive is much longer so gas gets pretty expensive. Their lab also isn’t nearly as nice it’s…
