Our laboratory had a ladder system for positions, you start at level 1 and work up, I only spoke to people at level 1 and level 2. After speaking to a lot of people, asking them how much work they did, how often then came in, how many optional meetings you go to etc etc, it's certain that pay rises were given out based solely on favouritism. The laboratory received a 3% funding increase for everyone to receive their 3%…. We recently just had our work Christmas dinner. We only have 3 employees and then my boss (company owner) brought his daughter along. My coworkers and I were chatting about the recent prices of everything and how much day care costs were killing us too. My boss's daughter (34 years old) chimes in with “oh wow I guess I'm just lucky to have a rich dad because I can't even imagine having to pay my own bills right now” Like yes, thanks, it sucks. It also sucks that her dad pays me $18/hour, gave me a company pen for a Christmas present and brought us to a shitty restaurant for a $12 dinner. No bonus or gift card or anything at all but I'm happy to know we make him enough money to cover his grown ass daughter's bills and rent.

I would be okay with working if my entire life wasn't structured around it. Working 40 hours a week is bullshit. 8 hours of work a day for 5 days of your 7 day week is the baseline. That is absurd. And it's endless. You don't get breaks like in school. You just work every fucking week to get your 2 days off as a reward. I understand what they are doing. Really your hourly rate should be much higher, and then they can make the normal work week 30 hours per week instead. But no, they peg the rates very low so they can have you all day instead. After being depressed for a week and self sulking. Working Uber eats on the side. Today, I got a job opportunity at a daycare. I can't be more thrilled. I used to work at a daycare previously for 7 years. Today is a good day.

I’m a welder in Iowa and make $20/hr and don’t make enough to cover bills. With my wife in school, I can’t take on any overtime. I don’t know what to do. We had a bill come out we weren’t prepared for and now we don’t have enough for rent. How is this the American dream? How is this what this country has come to? We are about to lose everything and there is nothing I can do about it. End of rant.
