I had my yearly performance review and I'm supposed to sign and add my comments. I was docked on performance and didn't get the full yearly raise because of an incident with a now former coworker, the Golden Child. She was absolutely the favorite of the managers, the whole team knew it. I had tried avoiding her, but ended up being assigned to a large project together. I had wanted to be on the project, Golden Child did not. As soon as we started, I kept having to talk to our manager about issues working with Golden Child. I was being blocked and removed from all communications, not included in meetings, having parts reassigned so I ended up doing parts already completed. Every time, I was told to communicate more with Golden Child and “assume best intent”, the corpospeak phrase of the year. Now I've had my review, saw the…

My boss is a right wing extremist
My boss is straight out of a comic book. This guy is the most Trump loving, gun toting, q-anon believing Alex Jones fanboy alive today. You should see the back window of his F-150. It’s got an: assault weapon sticker, all kinds of 2a stickers, anti Biden stickers, the American flag with the blue line through it…. He wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t so mentally ill. I seriously think this guy needs to see a psychiatrist. He clearly has schizophrenia or psychosis or something. He is so high strung. He is the modern day equivalent of a slave owner. If this was the 1800s, he would own slaves.I think a lot of these crazy right wingers are just mentally Ill. Many of Trumps most loyal supporters exhibit the same characteristics of people victimized by cults.
Boss doesn’t want to pay me for the week
I’m a independent contractor and I started doing work on a Tuesday. I sent in my invoice as usual on a Friday. They told me since it wasn’t a full week I wouldn’t get paid until the next week. There has been times where I would start doing work on Tuesdays and still receive payment on a Monday as usual. They want me to do extra work for another day?
I’m tired of this grandpa
Finally, Some Good News!
I work in renewable’s. I was super excited when I started. I’m a journeyman and live in a O&G stronghold that hates the idea of people being green. When I started my boss said are you willing to take a pay cut at the beginning but within 2 years you should be exactly where you are now as demand is getting higher every year. Well it’s been 3 years and with inflation I’m now behind 10% where I was before. Not to mention all the stress I have on my plate running jobs and making tight deadlines being the only worker in the field. I’ve joined the union that’s screaming for workers. I’ll start in 2 weeks making 21% more then I am now and I’ll have way less responsibility. I’m nervous cause change scares me but my family will benefit from this. Guess my boss won’t be able to…
I am asking sincerely, because I clearly don't understand the unemployment rate or something. It feels like, since the rate is about 3.5% right now, it SHOULD be an employee's market. But I'm seeing SO MANY posts about folks not being able to find jobs, or being afraid to quit because of the scarcity of jobs. Now, my suspicion is that they mean they aren't finding jobs which compensate well enough to have a decent life, but I'm not sure. I also know that the tech industry (which I'm in) is getting absolutely hammered by layoffs right now (https://www.leftvoice.org/tech-layoffs-show-the-need-for-greater-and-more-militant-organizing/), so I get that tech workers are feeling the pinch. I'm scared, myself, but I feel like it's just my sector. But is this more about underemployment vs. unemployment? Sorry if I'm being dense, I just want to wrap my head around the posts I'm seeing. Thanks!
The reward for hard work is more work
I’m going to quit this afternoon
I’ve been at my job almost two years. I was only supposed to stay a year. I tried to change my availabilities due to my declining health and my boss freaked out because we’re a small team and if I don’t work Sundays, she has no one. So she screamed at me over the phone, accused me of rumours she’d heard and insulted me. I was shocked that a manager would speak to her employee that way. My bf was in the room and heard the call and he was disgusted at her lack of respect and professionalism. She told me I couldn’t change my availabilities without a doctor’s note which just plain isn’t true at all and called me lazy because I don’t do more than my every day task list during my shift (minimum wage = minimum effort). When I told her about my health problems, she completely…
