I don't know how popular this'll be around here, but I like to think of myself as an ethical free market capitalist. That is, I think it's every man's job to not only make a buck but to be good and honest about how he does it. I know a lot of people have beef with capitalism. I get it. That's what got us all into this mess, right? Well, maybe. But what I want to talk about is corporatism. Sure a small business owner can be an asshole. But tell me what institutions have driven down wages, driven up prices, and dehumanized the entire work experience? What kind of business privatizes profits and socializes losses? Who's too big to fail? Who lobbies the gov't for special treatment? Who can destroy a whole community by shutting down a plant or closing a warehouse? I wanna know what you think about…

What's the point of taking a survey about the company if you're going to be over my shoulder? I have to put the highest rating for everything. I didn't feel comfortable enough, to be honest about my score. Most surveys like this aren't really anonymous if you need a link or your employee credentials but this was a new level of low.
Live in texas, and we have ice on the road. Called my job to tell them I wasn't coming in, I called them about 5 hours before my shift started. The hour my shift was supposed to start, and I got a call from them asking, “Where am I?” They also said that I am still required to work even though I am a new driver and have no experience driving in ice. Sucks
Is a career in finance ethical?
As a young person trying to learn about different careers I'm keen to hear what your opinions are of the ethics of working in finance, particularly at somewhere like an investment bank or a hedge fund? I posted a similar question in r/FinancialCareers so I would love to get a different perspective. Sorry if this is in the wrong sub.
Employer won’t let us discuss wages.
A few months ago, I found out that at least two of our new hires that I was training were brought in at a higher rate of pay than I was. They also were making more than someone who had been there for five years. I had asked for a raise a month prior to finding out this information. I discussed this issue with a few coworkers who were also upset. These new hires were new to the industry, and aside from me training them, I also have a year of experience on them and I have a pretty decent certification in my field. I was pissed. I brought this up to my direct lead who said she understood my frustration, but that “this is why we say that wages need to be kept confidential.” I informed her it’s illegal to require that, and she said it would get escalated…
The oligarchs are making their moves
Just remembered this story and I felt it was so outrageous I had to share. When I (F) was sixteen, I worked at a clothing store for kids. I was scheduled to work one night, and we had an awful blizzard coming through. School the next day was even delayed. I was going to go, but my mother forbid me from going. She owned the car, and she said it was not safe for me to be driving 25 minutes to work for $8 an hour, so, the answer was no. I called my manager and let them know, and they said “well, why cant you just come anyway?” as if I, as a 16 year old girl, really had any say in the matter. I once again said no, so they forced another fellow 16 year old coworker of mine to drive 25 minutes from the store to my…
