I was so excited when I opened it. The opening line is “Congratulations!” Followed by “the cash portion of your award is 0$.” Wtf I’m so confused. The rest of the letter is about how much they appreciate my contributions…. Has anyone else seen this before? I’ve never heard of a profit-sharing bonus.
Too scared to call in
For context I work in a skeleton crew of 3 people total at a wine tasting place, recently I've had a rather large life change (moving into a new place, some deaths in the family, planning a wedding, etc.) and because of it I've been getting sick a lot more often than usual, roughly about once or twice a month. I'm a good worker but I'm too scared to call in on any day from Friday-Sunday because they're out busiest days of the week and I have literally no one who can cover for me. I feel rather sick today but we have a meeting today at 11:30am and then a full day of piano bar until 10pm with no break whatsoever. I don't want to get anyone sick but I'm also too scared that I've taken too much time off recently. I also got a new job somewhere else…
Without going too much into details regarding the sheer incompetence of the upper management, here's a brief overview of what's causing people to be extremely unmotivated: Nobody gets a raise ever (confirmed by multiple people, in multiple departments, who have been working there for over a decade), despite having to go through performance review yearly; Unless already hired as a “senior”, nobody gets that bit added to their title (and the 4% pay raise that would come with it); Any job opening is posted internally as well, and any that would provide upward mobility is always filled with an external candidate (or they just ghost you). As you can imagine, with the inflation being completely insane right now, nobody cares anymore about their job. The solution? QUARTERLY TECHNICAL CHALLENGES! Basically find a way to use our tools to help team(s) becoming more efficient and save thousands of dollars for the…
Training off the clock??
Can my boss require I complete mandatory training off the clock? I’m a retail, hourly employee in Ohio.
I posted a thread here where I said this – and people assumed I was American and made it sound impossible. Well Im from Europe and here are the numbers: After taxes I make 2500 Euros/Month. This is more than 3/4 of the population of Western Europe are doing. Most people make around 1800 after taxes. Yet after paying rent – food – car insurance – fuel – the necessities – I am left with just 600 Euros. Rent is 900 Euros for a barely average apartment – fuel 100 Euros – car insurance – 150 Euros – food 300 Euros. Other insurance – internet – mobile phone – public transportation cards etc etc Some 400 I save and 200 I spend so that I can have at least some form of life. With such a saving rate I would need 10 years so save up 50 000 for a…
